Declaring Parts of Tribal Districts to be Tribal Committee Areas
under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945
PURSUANT to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act, 1945, I, Peter Fraser, Native Minister, do
hereby declare the parts of several tribal districts described in the
Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of
the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas the
name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.
SCHEDULE
WHANGAREI TRIBAL DISTRICT
Whangaruru Tribal Committee Area
ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
sea-coast in Block VIII, Russell Survey District, at the eastern
end of the northern boundary of Whangaroa-Ngaiotonga No. 4F
Block; thence south-easterly along the sea-coast and including
adjacent islands to a point in line with Okupe Island; thence
south-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station 1572, Hansen’s
Hill, a right line to Trig. Station 28, Opuawhanga, and a right line
to the south-western corner of Section 19, Block XII, Hukerenui
Survey District; thence north-westerly along a right line passing
through Trig. Station 1495 to the northern boundary of Section 11,
Block IV, Hukerenui Survey District; thence easterly along that
boundary to the western boundary of Section 3, Block IV aforesaid;
thence northerly generally along the said western boundary of the
last-mentioned section, the southern and western boundaries of
Paremata-Mokau Block, the western and north-western boundaries
of Punaruku No. 2 Block, the western boundary of Waikokopu
Block, the western boundaries of Sections 5 and 6, Block XII,
Russell Survey District, and the western boundary of the Tutaematai Block; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern
boundary of that block; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundary of Whangaroa-Ngaiotonga No. 4G Block and the
north-western boundary of the Whangaroa-Ngaiotonga No. 4F
Block; thence easterly along the northern boundary of that block
to a point on the sea-coast, the point of commencement.
Whakapara Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-eastern corner of Section 5, Block XIII, Hukerenui Survey District;
thence north-easterly generally along the boundary of the Whangarei
Tribal District to a point on the northern boundary of Section 11,
Block IV, Hukerenui Survey District, on a right line passing through
Trig. Station 1495 to the south-western corner of Section 19,
Block XII, Hukerenui Survey District; thence south-easterly
along that right line to the south-western corner of Section 19
aforesaid; thence southerly along a right line to Trig. Station B;
thence north-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station 1870, and
a right line to the north-eastern corner of Section 5, Block XIII,
Hukerenui Survey District, being the point of commencement.
Whananaki Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
sea-coast in line with Okupe Island; thence south-easterly generally
along the sea-coast, and including the Poor Knights Islands and
other adjacent islands to Kaone in Block IX, Opuawhanga Survey
District; thence south-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station B;
thence northerly along a right line to the south-western corner of
Section 19, Block XII, Hukerenui Survey District; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of the Whangaruru
Tribal Committee Area, hereinbefore described, to a point on the
sea-coast in line with Okupe Island, being the point of commencement.
Pipiwai Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-eastern corner of Section 5, Block XIII, Hukerenui Survey District;
thence south-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station 1870;
thence southerly along a right line to Trig. Station M 2, being a
point on the boundary of the Whangarei Tribal District; thence
westerly, north-westerly, and north-easterly generally along the
boundaries of that district to the north-eastern corner of Section 5,
Block XIII aforesaid, being the point of commencement.
Whangarei Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig.
Station 1870, in Block III, Purua Survey District; thence south-easterly generally along a right line to Trig. Station B, a right line
to Trig. Station O, and a right line to Kirikiri Point in Block XV,
Whangarei Survey District; thence southerly generally along the
middle of Parua Bay and Whangarei Harbour; thence westerly
generally up the middle of the Whangarei Harbour and the Mangapai
River to the bridge on the Main North Road; thence north-westerly
along that road to a point due east of Trig. Station O; thence
westerly along a right line to that trig. station; thence south-westerly along a right line passing through Trig. Station B, Huarua,
to the western boundary of the Whangarei Tribal District; thence
northerly along that boundary to Trig. Station M 2; thence northerly
along a right line to Trig. Station 1870, being the point of commencement.
Ngunguru Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Kaone, in
Block IX, Opuawhanga Survey District; thence southerly generally
along the sea-coast and including adjacent islands to Bream Head;
thence westerly generally along the sea-coast to the middle of the
entrance of the Whangarei Harbour; thence up the middle of that
harbour and Parua Bay to Kirikiri Point; thence north-westerly
along a right line to Trig. Station O in Block V, Whangarei Survey
District, and a right line to Trig. Station B; thence north-easterly
along a right line to Kaone, the point of commencement.
Takahiawai Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the south-western corner of the Whangarei Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly and easterly generally
along the south-eastern and southern boundaries of that tribal
committee area and the south-western boundary of the Ngunguru
Tribal Committee Area, hereinbefore described, to the middle of
the entrance of the Whangarei Harbour; thence to and along the
sea-coast to Bream Tail, and including the Hen and Chickens
Islands; thence westerly and northerly generally along the
boundaries of the Whangarei Tribal District to the south-western
corner of the Whangarei Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore
described, being the point of commencement.
HOBSON TRIBAL DISTRICT
Maunganui Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig.
Station E 2, in Block XI, Mangakahia Survey District; thence
southerly along a right line to the westernmost corner of Lot 74
on a plan numbered 10700, lodged in the office of the District Land
Registrar at Auckland; thence south-westerly along a right line
to Moremonui on the sea-coast, being a point on the boundary of
the Hobson Tribal District; thence north-westerly, easterly, and
southerly generally, along the south-western, northern, and eastern
boundaries generally of that tribal district to Trig. Station E 2,
the point of commencement.
Oturei Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig.
Station E 2, in Block XI, Mangakahia Survey District; thence
south-easterly along a right line to the south-eastern corner of
part Omu Block, shown on the plan numbered 2405, lodged in
the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland; thence
southerly along a right line to the middle of the Wairoa River;
thence southerly generally down the middle of that river to a point in
line with the south-eastern boundary of Allotment 14, Tatarariki
Parish, in Block VI, Tokatoka Survey District; thence to and
along that boundary and its production south-westerly to the
sea-coast; thence north-westerly along the sea-coast to Moremonui,
in Block IX, Kaihu Survey District, being a point on the boundary
of the Maunganui Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described;
thence north-easterly and northerly along the south-eastern and
eastern boundaries of that area to Trig. Station E 2, the point
of commencement.
Tangiteroria Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig.
Station E 2, in Block XI, Mangakahia Survey District; thence
easterly, south-easterly, and south-westerly generally along the
northern, north-eastern, and south-eastern boundaries of the
Hobson Tribal District to the confluence of the Tauraroa River
and the Mangonui River; thence westerly along a right line to
Trig. Station 866, in Block XI, Maungaru Survey District; thence
north-westerly along a right line to a point in the middle of the
Wairoa River due south of the south-eastern corner of part Omu
Block, shown on the plan numbered 2405, lodged in the office of
the District Land Registrar at Auckland; thence northerly along
a right line to the aforesaid south-eastern corner; thence north-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station E 2, the point of
commencement.
Mititai Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the confluence
of the Tauraroa River and the Mangonui River in Block XVI,
Maungaru Survey District; thence south-westerly generally along
the south-eastern boundary of the Hobson Tribal District to a
point in the middle of the Wairoa River in Block VI, Tokatoka
Survey District; thence north-westerly up the middle of that river
to the eastern corner of the Oturei Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence along the eastern boundary of that area
to the south-western boundary of the Tangiteroria Tribal Committee
Area hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly along that
boundary to the confluence of the Tauraroa River and the Mangonui
River, being the point of commencement.
Ripia Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point in
the middle of the Wairoa River in line with the south-eastern
boundary of Allotment 14, Tatarariki Parish, in Block VI,
Tokatoka Survey District; thence down the middle of the Wairoa
River to a point opposite Otara Point; thence south-westerly
along a right line to Otara Point, and a right line to a point on the
sea-coast, being the south-western corner of Block I, Te Kuri
Survey District; thence north-westerly along the sea-coast to the
southernmost corner of the Oturei Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern
boundary of that area to a point in the middle of the Wairoa River
in line with the south-eastern boundary of Allotment 14 aforesaid,
being the point of commencement.
Pouto Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point in the
middle of the Wairoa River opposite Otara Point; thence south-easterly and south-westerly generally down the middle of that
river and the Kaipara Harbour to the middle of the entrance
of that harbour; thence north-westerly generally to and along
the sea-coast to the south-western corner of Block I, Te Kuri
Survey District, being a point on the boundary of the Ripia Tribal
Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly
along the south-eastern boundary of that area to a point in the
middle of the Wairoa River opposite Otara Point, being the point
of commencement.
