Notice to Mariners No. 9 of 1947

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—OTAGO HARBOUR

Dredging Operations

Position : Harrington Point. Lat., 45° 47' S.; long., 170° 43' 3 E. (approx.).

Details: Dredging operations, which will occupy about three months, are in progress in daylight hours in the main entrance channel on the line of leads, in conjunction with the red beacon side of the main channel between beacons Nos. 2 and 3 in Harrington Point bend, where the dredger will be moored at night.

During the hours of darkness two red lights will be exhibited from the port side of the dredger, one white light on the port bow, and one white light on the port quarter. By day a black ball will be exhibited on the side on which vessels should pass.

Mariners entering or leaving the port should proceed with caution when passing the dredger.

Notice of Result of Poll

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the City of Wanganui, taken on the 26th day of March, 1947, on the proposal of the Wanganui City Council to borrow the sum of £130,000, for the purposes of the replacement of the existing tramway system with a new system comprising trolley buses and omnibuses, and the providing of all material, appliances, and other matters and things necessary, expedient, or convenient for such purposes :-

Votes.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was . . 744
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1,196
Informal votes . . . . . . . . . . . 3

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

Price Order No. 675 (Canned Herrings)

PURSUANT to the powers conferred on it by the Control of Prices Emergency Regulations 1939,* the Price Tribunal, acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, doth hereby make the following Price Order :-

  1. This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 675, and shall come into force on the 18th day of April, 1947.

  2. (1) Price Orders No. 560+ and No. 626$ are hereby revoked.
    (2) The revocation of the said Orders shall not affect the liability of any person for any offence in relation thereto committed before the coming into force of this Order.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This Order applies with respect to all canned herrings in tomato sauce and canned fresh herrings imported into New Zealand.

FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES OF CANNED HERRINGS TO WHICH THIS ORDER APPLIES

Wholesalers' Prices

(4) The maximum price (exclusive of sales tax) that may be charged or received by any wholesaler for any canned herrings to which this Order applies shall be determined as follows :-

(a) When sold by a wholesaler whose premises are situate in any of the cities of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, or Dunedin, the maximum price shall be-

Herrings in tomato sauce-
For 14 oz. containers .. 19 3 per dozen.
For 7 oz. containers .. 12 1 per dozen.

Fresh herrings-
For 14 oz. containers .. 18 7 per dozen.

(b) When sold by a wholesaler whose premises are situate elsewhere, the maximum price shall be-

Herrings in tomato sauce-
For 14 oz. containers .. 19 11 per dozen.
For 7 oz. containers .. 12 5 per dozen.

Fresh herrings-
For 14 oz. containers .. 19 3 per dozen.

Retailers' Prices

  1. The maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for any canned herrings to which this Order applies shall be determined as follows :-

(a) When sold by a retailer whose premises are situate in any area within which any wholesaler carrying on business in any of the cities of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, or Dunedin normally undertakes the free delivery of goods to retailers, the maximum price shall be-

Herrings in tomato sauce-
For 14 oz. containers .. .. 2 4 each.
For 7 oz. containers .. .. 1 6 each.

Fresh herrings-
For 14 oz. containers .. .. 2 3½ each.

(b) When sold by a retailer whose premises are situate elsewhere, the maximum price shall be-

Herrings in tomato sauce-
For 14 oz. containers .. .. 2 5 each.
For 7 oz. containers .. .. 1 6½ each.

Fresh herrings-
For 14 oz. containers .. .. 2 4½ each.

SPECIAL PRICES WHERE EXTRAORDINARY CHARGES INCURRED

  1. Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this Order, and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks fit, the Tribunal, on application by any wholesaler or retailer may authorize special maximum wholesale or retail prices in respect of any canned herrings to which this Order applies where for any reason extraordinary charges (transport or otherwise) are incurred by the wholesaler or retailer. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this clause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of canned herrings, or may relate generally to all canned herrings to which this Order applies sold by the wholesaler or retailer while the approval remains in force.
