Constituting the Southland Catchment District

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 21st day of March, 1945

Present:

THE HON. W. NASH PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941, and of every other power in anywise enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby constitute and declare the parts of New Zealand described in the Schedule hereto a catchment district under the said Act as from this twenty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and forty-five, and doth hereby assign to such catchment district the name of the “Southland Catchment District.”

SCHEDULE

ALL those areas in the Southland and Otago Land Districts and comprising:—

The Fiord County (as described in the First Schedule to the Counties Act, 1876).

The Wallace County (New Zealand Gazette, 1938, page 1767).

The City of Invercargill (New Zealand Gazette, 1938, page 487).

The Borough of South Invercargill (New Zealand Gazette, 1928, page 414).

The Borough of Gore (New Zealand Gazette, 1916, page 3350).

The Borough of Bluff (New Zealand Gazette, 1940, page 1802).

The Borough of Mataura (New Zealand Gazette, 1926, page 393).

The Borough of Riverton (New Zealand Gazette, 1879, page 787).

The Borough of Winton (New Zealand Gazette, 1922, page 2700).

The Town District of Wyndham (New Zealand Gazette, 1882, page 1138).

The Town District of Lumsden (New Zealand Gazette, 1915, page 2035).

The Town District of Nightcaps (New Zealand Gazette, 1918, page 2688).

The Town District of Otatau (New Zealand Gazette, 1908, page 1626).

Also all that portion of the Southland County bounded as follows: Towards the north generally by Lake County and Vincent County respectively, as described in the First Schedule to the Counties Act, 1876, from Hummock Peak on the eastern boundary of Wallace County to the north-western corner of the Tuapeka County; thence towards the east generally by the said Tuapeka County to Black Umbrella; thence in a south-westerly direction by a right line to Mount Wendon; thence in a south-easterly direction by a right line to Trig. A on the western boundary of Run 175c, Greenvale Survey District; thence in a southerly direction generally by the western boundary of the said Run 175c to the south-western corner thereof; thence in an easterly direction by the southern boundary of the said Run 175c to the south-eastern corner thereof; thence in a northerly direction generally by the eastern boundary of the said Run 175c to the westernmost corner of Lot 1, D.P. 1142 (Otago Land Registry), Block VII, Greenvale Survey District; thence in a south-easterly direction by the south-western boundary of the said Lot 1, D.P. 1142, to the boundary of the Clutha County; thence in a southerly, easterly, and southerly direction by the boundary of the Clutha County, as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1913, page 451, to a public road forming the north-eastern boundary of Section 26, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District; thence in a north-westerly direction generally along the said public road forming the north-eastern boundary of the said Section 26 and Section 27 to its junction with another public road forming the western boundary of the said Section 27; thence in a southerly direction generally by the said public road forming the western boundary of Sections 27, 25, and 37, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District, to its junction with the public road forming the northern boundary of Section 22, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District; thence in a westerly direction generally by the public road forming the northern boundary of Sections 16, 22, 17B, and 17A, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District, to the westernmost point of Section 17A; thence in a southerly direction by the public road forming the western boundaries of Sections 17A and 14 to its junction with the public road between Sections 14 and 12, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District; thence in a south-westerly direction generally by the public road forming part of the western boundary of Section 12 and the northern boundary of Section 11 to the western boundary of Section 11, all in Block IX, Waikaka Survey District; thence in a southerly direction by the western boundary of the said Section 11 to Section 16A, Block VIII, Waikaka Survey District; thence in a westerly direction by the northern boundary of the said Section 16A to the north-western corner thereof; thence in a southerly direction by the western boundary of the said Section 16A and by the western boundary of Sections 14A, 15A, 16A, and 17, Block VIII, and Section 22, Block IX, Tuturau Survey District, to the south-western corner of the last-mentioned section; thence in an easterly direction by the southern boundary of the said Section 22 to the north-western corner of Section 19, Block III, Slopedown Survey District; thence in a southerly direction by the western boundary of the said Section 19 to the south-western corner thereof; thence in an easterly direction by the southern boundary of the said Section 19 and Sections 25, 26, and 15, Block II, Slopedown Survey District, to the westernmost corner of Section 3, Block VI, Slopedown Survey District; thence in a south-easterly direction along the south-western boundary of the said Section 3 to the southernmost corner of Section 2, Block VI, Slopedown Survey District, on the boundary of the Clutha County; thence in a south-easterly direction generally by the aforesaid boundary of the Clutha County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1913, page 451, to the western boundary of Block XI, Kuriwao Survey District; thence in a southerly direction along the western boundary of the said Block XI and that line produced to a point between Catlin’s Cone and Marquee on the boundary of the Clutha County; thence in a westerly and southerly direction generally by the said boundary of the Clutha County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1913, page 451, to a point due north of Trig. V (Black Horn) on the public road forming the northern boundary of Section 3, Block XIV, Waikawa Survey District; thence in a north-westerly direction by the said public road to the north-western corner of the said Section 3; thence due south to the public road forming part of the western boundary of Section 3, Block XIV, Waikawa Survey District; thence in a south-westerly direction generally by the said public road to the north-western corner of Section 30, Block XVII, Waikawa Survey District; thence due south by the western boundary of the said Section 30 to the road forming the southern boundary of the said Section 30; thence in an easterly direction by the said road to the western boundary of Section 24, Block XVII, Waikawa Survey District; thence in a southerly direction along the western boundary of the said Section 24 to the south-western corner thereof; thence in a south-easterly direction along the south-western boundary of the said Section 24 and Section 25, Block XVII, Waikawa Survey District, to the western boundary of Block XV, Waikawa Survey District; thence in a southerly direction generally along the western boundary of the said Block XV and Block XVI to the coast at Boat Harbour. Towards the south by the sea and towards the west by the boundary of the Wallace County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1938, page 1767, excepting therefrom the City of Invercargill, the boroughs of South Invercargill, Bluff, Winton, Gore, and Mataura, and the town districts of Lumsden and Wyndham.

Also all that portion of the Clutha County and bounded as follows: Commencing at the intersection of the boundary of the Clutha County and the south-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 1142 (Otago Land Registry), Block VII, Greenvale Survey District; thence in a south-easterly direction by the south-western boundary of the said Lot 1, D.P. 1142, to a public road forming the western boundary of Lot 4, D.P. 1142; thence in a south-westerly and south-easterly direction generally by the said public road to the western boundary of Lot 4, D.P. 1135 (Otago Land Registry); thence in a south-westerly and south-easterly direction generally by the said western boundary of Lot 4, D.P. 1135, to a public road; thence in an easterly direction by the said road to the easternmost point of Lot 9, D.P. 1134 (Otago Land Registry); thence in a southerly direction generally by the public road forming the western boundaries of Lot 8, D.P. 1135 (Otago Land Registry), and Section 29, Block I, Glenkenich Survey District, the northern boundaries of Sections 23 and 24, Block I, Glenkenich Survey District, the western boundary of Sections 25, 19, 18, 17, 10, 11, and 12, Block I, Glenkenich Survey District, the western boundary of the Education Reserve, Sections 23, 22, 16, 15, 14, 13, 11, and 10, Block V, Glenkenich Survey District, to the south-western corner of the last-mentioned section; thence in an easterly direction along the southern boundary of Section 10 aforesaid and Section 9, Block V, Glenkenich Survey District, to a public road forming the western boundary of Sections 17, 18, 27, 28, 29, and 30, Block IX, Glenkenich Survey District, the southern boundary of Sections 31, 32, 37, and 41, Block IX, Glenkenich Survey District, the southern boundary of Sections 34 and 35, Block X, Glenkenich Survey District, the western boundary of Section 19a, Conical Hills Settlement, Section 20, Sections 40a and 47a, Conical Hills Settlement, and Section 9, Block IX, Waipahi Survey District, to the westernmost corner of the said Section 9; thence due east by the southern boundaries of Sections 9 and 13, Block IX, Waipahi Survey District, to a public road forming the western boundary of Section 50A, Conical Hills Settlement, Block IX, Waipahi Survey District; thence in a southerly direction generally by the public road forming the western boundary of Sections 11, 10, and 5, Block X, Waipahi Survey District, to the south-western corner of Section 5, Block X, Waipahi Survey District; thence in a south-easterly direction by a right line to the north-western corner of Section 27, Block X, Waipahi Survey District; thence in a south-westerly direction generally by the public road forming the western boundary of Section 27, the north-western boundary of Sections 25 and 23, Block X, Waipahi Survey District, to the northern boundary of Section 5, Block XI, Waipahi Survey District; thence in a westerly direction along the northern boundary of the said Section 5 to the boundary of the Clutha County at north-western corner of the said Section 5; thence in a northerly, westerly, and northerly direction by the boundary of the Clutha County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1913, page 451, to the point of commencement.

Also all that portion of the Clutha County bounded as follows: Commencing at a point on the western boundary of the Clutha County, the said point being the easternmost corner of Run 251 in Block VI, Slopedown Survey District; thence in a south-easterly direction by the south-western boundary of the northern part of part Run 258 (Otago Land District), and Section 6, Block VI, Slopedown Survey District, and that line produced to the western boundary of Block XI, Kuriwao Survey District; thence in a southerly direction along the western boundary of the said Block XI to the boundary of the Clutha County; thence in a north-westerly and north-easterly direction generally by the boundary to the Clutha County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1913, page 451, to the point of commencement.
