along a right line to Trigonometrical Station 4, “Pikiawatea,”
in Block IX, Taharua Survey District, being a point on the
boundary of the Hawke’s Bay Catchment District, as described
in New Zealand Gazette, 1943, pages 1158 and 1159; thence
southerly generally along the eastern boundary of Hawke’s Bay
Catchment District to its intersection with the southern boundary
of County of Taupo; and thence westerly and northerly along
the southern and western boundaries of County of Taupo aforesaid
to the point of commencement.
All that portion of County of Rangitikei, bounded commencing at Trigonometrical Station 26, “Tawaki Tohunga,”
situated in Block XII, Mangamaire Survey District, being a point
on the northern boundary of County of Rangitikei, as described
in New Zealand Gazette, 1922, page 2788, and being also a point on
the western boundary of Hawke’s Bay Catchment District, as
described in New Zealand Gazette, 1943, page 1158; thence in a
southerly direction generally along the boundary of Hawke’s Bay
Catchment District aforesaid to its intersection with the southern
boundary of County of Rangitikei; thence westerly, south-westerly,
north-westerly, and north-easterly generally along the boundaries
of County of Rangitikei aforesaid to the point of commencement.

All that portion of County of Kiwitea, bounded commencing
at a point on the south-western boundary of County of Kiwitea,
as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1926, page 3515, at its intersection with the southern side of Benson’s Road in Block III,
Oroua Survey District, being also a point on the boundary of
Manawatu Catchment District, as described in New Zealand Gazette,
1943, page 973; thence in north-westerly, north-easterly, easterly,
southerly, and westerly directions generally along the boundary
of County of Kiwitea aforesaid to the middle of Oroua River in
Block III, Umutoti Survey District; and thence westerly and south-westerly generally along the general north-western boundary of
Manawatu Catchment District aforesaid to the point of commencement.
All that portion of County of Oroua, bounded commencing
at a point on the southern boundary of County of Oroua, as
described in New Zealand Gazette, 1939, page 1582, at its intersection with the western side of Mount Stewart–Halcombe Road
in Block XII, Rangitoto Survey District, being also a point on
the boundary of Manawatu Catchment District, as described in
New Zealand Gazette, 1943, page 973; thence westerly, northerly,
easterly, and south-easterly along the boundary of County of
Oroua aforesaid to its intersection with the boundary of Manawatu
Catchment District at the southern side of Benson’s Road in
Block III, Oroua Survey District; and thence south-westerly,
westerly, and southerly generally along the boundary of Manawatu
Catchment District aforesaid to the point of commencement.
All that portion of County of Manawatu, bounded commencing
at a point on the western boundary of County of Manawatu, as
described in New Zealand Gazette, 1941, page 86, in line with the
north-western side of Hunia Terrace (Town of Himatangi Beach),
in Block III, Sandy Survey District, being also a point on the
boundary of Manawatu Catchment District, as described in New
Zealand Gazette, 1943, page 973; thence northerly, north-westerly,
and easterly generally along the boundary of County of Manawatu
aforesaid to its intersection with the boundary of Manawatu Catchment District aforesaid at the western side of Mount Stewart–
Halcombe Road in Block XII, Rangitoto Survey District; and
thence southerly and westerly generally along the boundary of
Manawatu Catchment District aforesaid to the point of commencement.
As the same are more particularly delineated on the plan
marked P.W.D. 120634, deposited in the office of the Minister of
Works at Wellington and thereon bordered red, and marked Taupo
County (Sheet 1), Waimarino County (Sheet 2), Wanganui County
(Sheet 3), Rangitikei County (Sheet 4), Manawatu County (Sheet 5),
Oroua County (Sheet 6), and Kiwitea County (Sheet 7).

Constituting the Westland Catchment District

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington, this 13th day of
December, 1944
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by
the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941, and of
every other power in anywise enabling him in that behalf, His
Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the said Dominion, doth hereby constitute and declare the parts
of New Zealand described in the Schedule hereto a catchment
district under the said Act as from this thirteenth day of
December, one thousand nine hundred and forty-four, and doth
hereby assign to such catchment district the name of the “Westland
Catchment District.”
SCHEDULE
ALL those areas in the Westland Land District comprising:—
The County of Westland (New Zealand Gazette, 1925, page 1923):
The County of Grey (New Zealand Gazette, 1913, page 179).
The Borough of Greymouth (New Zealand Gazette, 1934, page
2998).
The Borough of Hokitika (New Zealand Gazette, 1925, page 1923).
The Borough of Ross (New Zealand Gazette, 1882, page 128).
The Borough of Kumara (New Zealand Gazette, 1877, page 763).
The Borough of Brunner (New Zealand Gazette, 1887, page 1302).
The Borough of Runanga (New Zealand Gazettes, 1913, page 179,
1929, page 3062).
Also all that area in the Nelson Land District, being portion of
the Inangahua County, situated in Maimai, Reefton, Mawheraiti,
Waitahu, Ahaura, and Pohaturoa Survey Districts, and bounded,
commencing at Mount Faraday on the Nelson-Westland Land
District boundary (Gazette, 1902, page 222) by a line running in an
easterly and north-easterly direction along the summit of the
main range over Mount Uriah to the point of intersection in Block VI,
Maimai Survey District, with a ridge on the south side of the main
range; thence in a general south-easterly direction by a line along
the crest of the ridge forming the watershed of affluents of the
Mawheraiti River in Blocks VI, VII, XI, and XII, Maimai Survey
District, and Blocks IX and XIII, Reefton Survey District, to the
crossing of the Reefton–Greymouth Railway at the tunnel, situated
in Block XIII aforesaid; thence again in a general south-easterly
direction by the crest of the ridge forming the watershed of affluents
of the Mawheraiti River, and situated in Block XIII aforesaid and
Blocks I, II, VI, X, XI, XV, and XVI, Waitahu Survey District, and
Block IV, Pohaturoa Survey District, to the intersection of the
Nelson-Westland Land District boundary in Block IV aforesaid;
thence in a general westerly and north-westerly direction by the
Nelson-Westland Land District boundary (Gazette, 1902, page 222)
to Mount Faraday, the point of commencement. As the same is
more particularly delineated on a plan numbered P.W.D. 120488,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Works at Wellington, and
thereon edged red.

Declaring the Number of Members and apportioning Representation
on the Westland Catchment Board

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington, this 13th day of
December, 1944
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the Soil
Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941, and of every other
power in anywise enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
Dominion, doth hereby declare that the Westland Catchment Board
shall consist of nine elective members and six non-elective members,
and that the number of such elective members to be representative
of each separate constituent district or combined district within
the catchment district on the said Board shall be the number specified
in the Schedule hereto opposite the name of the constituent district
or group of names of constituent districts comprising a combined
district; and doth further declare that each group of constituent
districts, the names of which are bracketed together in the first
column of the Schedule hereto, is hereby constituted a combined
district for the purposes of the said Act, and that the principal
local authority of each such combined district shall be the local
authority of the constituent district distinguished in the first column
of the Schedule hereto by the letter “(P)”.
