The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments.—Fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists' Shops within the Borough of Morrinsville.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour from the occupiers of tobacconists' shops within the Borough of Morrinsville pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:

And whereas he is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all such shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, the Minister of Labour doth hereby direct that on and after the 23rd day of November, 1942, all such shops within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to closing at not later than 1 p.m. on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 6 p.m. and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:

(1) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe Friday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for such shop shall be 9 p.m.; and

(2) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day, on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday there shall be no fixed closing-hour.

The notice gazetted on the 20th May, 1937, fixing the closing-hours of (1) hairdressers’ and (2) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Morrinsville, shall be and is hereby cancelled, in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice, as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22.—Prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Morrinsville of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.

WHEREAS a petition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Morrinsville has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, smoking-requisites—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:

And whereas he is satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, the Minister of Labour doth hereby direct that on and after the 23rd day of November, 1942, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays after the hour of 6 p.m., and on Thursdays and Fridays after the hour of 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:

On the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, and on the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday the sale of the said goods is not prohibited.

The Canister Workers Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942.

IN pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order as follows:

  1. This Order may be cited as the Canister Workers Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942.

  2. This Order applies to Alexander Harvey and Sons, Ltd., Auckland, and to the workers employed by that company whose employment is subject to the Northern Industrial District Canister Workers’ award dated the 7th day of May, 1942, and recorded in 42 Book of Awards 387, while such workers are engaged in the manufacture of chocolate emergency tins.

  3. The provisions of the Factories Act, 1921-22, and its amendments, and of the said award, are hereby suspended in so far as they operate to prevent or restrict the employment of the workers hereinbefore mentioned on the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth.

  4. Two shifts shall be worked each day from Monday to Friday inclusive, the morning shift from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the afternoon shift from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  5. Shifts shall be rotated.

  6. The provisions of clause 2 (c) of the said award relating to the payment of shift-allowance shall not apply to such shift-work, but time worked between 7 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. on the morning shift and between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the afternoon shift shall be paid for at time and a half rates and time worked between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on the afternoon shift shall be paid for at double time rates.

  7. On each shift the employer shall allow two ten-minute spells and provide tea, in addition to allowing a half-hour interval for a meal. Such spells and meal intervals shall be paid for as time worked, but no further payment shall be due in respect of such spells, intervals, and meals.

  8. Wages shall be in accordance with the provisions of clauses 3 and 4 of the said award.

  9. The employer shall satisfy the Secretary of the Northern Industrial District Amalgamated Engineering, Coachbuilding, and Related Trades Industrial Union of Workers that satisfactory facilities are available to enable female assistants employed on the afternoon shift to return home.

  10. This Order shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of September, 1942.

Redefining a Bobby Calf Marketing Pool Area.

PURSUANT to the Bobby Calf Marketing Regulations 1939, I, James Gillispie Barclay, Minister of Marketing, being satisfied that a sufficient majority of the producers in the area of land defined in the Schedule hereto is desirous that such area should be declared to be a pool area for the marketing of bobby calves, do hereby declare such area of land defined as aforesaid to be a Bobby Calf Marketing Pool Area for the purposes of the said regulations in the name set out in the said Schedule, and I do hereby further declare that this notice shall take effect on the 19th day of November, 1942.

SCHEDULE.

MATATOKI BOBBY CALF MARKETING POOL AREA.

All that area of land situated within the Thames County and Borough of Thames and bounded by a line commencing at the point where the Kauaeranga River enters the Firth of Thames, and from this point following the county boundary up the Waihou River in a south-easterly direction to Section No. 58, Whakau Block; thence from this point taking a straight line across country in an easterly direction to the Omaha Bridge on the Main Thames-Paeroa Highway; thence from this point taking a straight line across country in a north-westerly direction to the Kauaeranga River in the north-east corner of Section 2, Block VI, Thames Survey District; thence from this point taking a straight line across country to the point where the Kauaeranga River enters the Firth of Thames, being the original point of commencement.

The Lemon Marketing Regulations 1940.—Notice fixing Prices of certain Grades.

Internal Marketing Division,

Wellington, 2nd November, 1942.

PURSUANT to Regulation 5:1 of the Lemon Marketing Regulations 1940, I hereby fix the following prices per bushel to be paid by the Marketing Department for lemons of Fancy Grade and Commercial Grade respectively, delivered to the Department during the undermentioned period.

The prices are fixed on an average basic price of 6s. 4½d. for sufficient fruit which when cured will pack a bushel case.

Period of delivery (both days inclusive): 1st November to 30th November, 1942:

Authorizing the Laying-off of Roads of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Okareka Extension No. 3, affecting part of Section 10, Block VII, Tarawera Survey District, Auckland Land District, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that Acacia Road (Lot 48) and Vue Road (Lot 49) shown thereon should be of the width of 66 ft.:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the power conferred upon him by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power him thereunto enabling, the Minister of Lands doth hereby authorize the laying-off of Acacia Road (Lot 48) of a width of not less than 50 ft., and Vue Road (Lot 49) of a width not less than 40 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.
