2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) A. T. Gillum relinquishes the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 15th June, 1941.

N.Z. Army Service Corps.

Captain (temp. Major) B. A. N. Woods relinquishes the temporary rank of Major on being placed on the New Zealand Roll. Dated 26th June, 1941.

APPOINTMENTS TO HONORARY COMMISSIONS.

MEMORANDA.

Lieutenant-Colonel H. K. Kippenberger, 20th (Canterbury-Otago) Battalion, was granted the acting rank of Colonel while commanding a Brigade from 30th April, 1941, to 31st May, 1941.

Lieutenant-Colonel A. S. Falconer, D.S.O., M.C., 23rd (Canterbury-Otago) Battalion, was granted the acting rank of Colonel while commanding a Brigade from 12th May, 1941, to 21st May, 1941.

Major E. A. Harding, 21st (Auckland) Battalion, was granted the acting rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a Battalion from 20th April, 1941, to 17th May, 1941.

Major C. A. D’A. Blackburn, 19th (Wellington) Battalion, was granted the acting rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a Battalion from 15th April, 1941, to 31st May, 1941.

Major D. F. Leckie, 23rd (Canterbury-Otago) Battalion, was granted the acting rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a Battalion from 12th May, 1941, to 31st May, 1941.

Major J. T. Burrows, 20th (Canterbury-Otago) Battalion, was granted the acting rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a Battalion from 30th April, 1941, to 31st May, 1941.

Captain B. I. Bassett, 23rd (Canterbury-Otago) Battalion, acted as Brigade Major of a Composite Brigade from 12th May, 1941, to 20th May, 1941.

Captain G. K. Fussell, 18th (Auckland) Battalion, acted as Staff Captain of a Composite Brigade from 12th May, 1941, to 20th May, 1941.

Appointments, Promotions, and Relinquishments of Temporary Rank of Officers on Active Service with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force Overseas.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to confirm the following appointments, promotions, and relinquishments of temporary rank of officers on active service with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas, vide List No. 31:—

APPOINTMENTS.

Commands and Staff.

Colonel Sir Stephen S. Allen, K.B.E., C.M.G., D.S.O., V.D., relinquishes the appointment of Military Secretary, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, on proceeding to the United Kingdom for discharge. Dated 12th July, 1941.

Major L. F. Rudd, N.Z. Engineers, is appointed Military Secretary, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, and remains seconded. Dated 12th July, 1941.

Major A. Ainslie, N.Z. Artillery, is detached for special duty, and is seconded. Dated 17th July, 1941.

Captain (temp. Major) J. H. Garland relinquishes command of the Composite Training Depot. Dated 17th July, 1941.

Captain M. S. Carrie, N.Z. Engineers, is appointed to command the Composite Training Depot, and is seconded. Dated 17th July, 1941.

Captain S. W. Josland, 25th (Wellington) Battalion, is posted to the Base Reception Depot, and is seconded. Dated 11th July, 1941.

Lieutenant K. L. Brown, 18th (Auckland) Battalion, is appointed to command the Divisional D. and E. Platoon, and is seconded. Dated 15th July, 1941.

PROMOTIONS.

N.Z. Engineers.

Lieutenant G. A. Lindell to be Captain, vice Captain M. S. Carrie, seconded and promoted, and is appointed Adjutant, Headquarters, N.Z. Engineers. Dated 8th July, 1941.

Lieutenant D. V. C. Kelsall to be Captain, vice Captain W. G. Morrison, promoted and seconded. Dated 7th July, 1941.

27th (Machine Gun) Battalion.

Lieutenant A. T. B. Green to be Captain, vice Captain J. H. B. Luxford, promoted. Dated 24th June, 1941.

GRANTS OF TEMPORARY RANK.

2nd N.Z. Divisional Cavalry.

Major (Acting Lieutenant-Colonel) H. G. Carruth is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a Regiment. Dated 22nd February, 1941.

N.Z. Artillery.

Lieutenant W. C. Savage is granted the temporary rank of Captain while holding the appointment of Adjutant, 7th Anti-tank Regiment. Dated 16th July, 1941.

2nd Lieutenant R. H. Crozier is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant while holding the appointment of Adjutant, Artillery Training Regiment. Dated 7th July, 1941.

N.Z. Engineers.

Captain M. S. Carrie is granted the temporary rank of Major while commanding Composite Training Depot. Dated 17th July, 1941.

Captain H. S. C. Woolcott is granted the temporary rank of Major while commanding a Field Company. Dated 1st July, 1941.

Lieutenant R. C. Pemberton is granted the temporary rank of Captain, vice Captain D. V. C. Kelsall, posted as missing. Dated 7th July, 1941.

Infantry.

18th, 21st, 24th, and 31st (Auckland) Battalions.

Major A. W. Greville was granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel whilst performing administrative duties with 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force in United Kingdom from 8th October, 1940, to 16th June, 1941.

Captain S. J. Hedge is granted the temporary rank of Major to complete establishment. Dated 20th March, 1941.

2nd Lieutenant A. E. Kennard is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant while holding the appointment of Adjutant, 31st (Auckland) Battalion. Dated 18th June, 1941.

19th (Wellington) Battalion.

Lieutenant L. W. Dugleby is granted the temporary rank of Captain while second in command of a Company. Dated 17th June, 1941.

27th (Machine Gun) Battalion.

Lieutenant E. I. Crafts is granted the temporary rank of Captain, vice Captain A. T. B. Green, posted as missing. Dated 24th June, 1941.

N.Z. Army Service Corps.

Captain S. G. Forbes is granted the temporary rank of Major, vice Major E. P. Davis, posted as missing. Dated 26th June, 1941.

N.Z. Ordnance Corps.

Lieutenant N. L. W. Uniacke is granted the temporary rank of Captain while commanding a Section Divisional Ordnance Workshop. Dated 28th June, 1941.

TEMPORARY RANK RELINQUISHED.

Captain (temp. Major) J. N. Anderson, 19th Army Troops Company, relinquishes the temporary rank of Major. Dated 26th June, 1941.

CORRIGENDUM.

Commands and Staff.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 62, dated 31st July, 1941, vide List No. 21, relative to Captain J. B. White, for “ Dated 10th March, 1941,” substitute “ Dated 1st May, 1941.”

MEMORANDA.

Major J. N. Peart performed the duties of Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General, 2nd N.Z. Division, from 2nd October, 1940, until 1st May, 1941.

Lieutenant T. G. Santon, 28th (Maori) Battalion, was by sentence of a Court-martial ordered to take rank and precedence in the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force as if his appointment as Lieutenant bore date the 23rd June, 1941.
