Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Retirements
of Officers of the New Zealand Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been
pleased to approve of the following appoint-
ments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of officers
of the New Zealand Military Forces:—
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Lieutenant-Colonel R. W. Fenton, E.D., N.Z. Artillery,
to be Major (temp.), and is appointed to command the
Depot Battery, Artillery Training Regiment, Mobiliza-
tion Camp, Papakura. Dated 11th July, 1941.
Frederick Walter Whitney Dawson, L.S.A. (Lond.),
M.B., D.P.H., R.C.P.S. (Eng.), to be Major (temp.),
N.Z. Medical Corps, Central Military District, and is
seconded for duty with the Royal New Zealand Air
Force. Dated 23rd July, 1941.
Major R. W. Fenton, E.D., relinquishes command of
the Depot Battery, Artillery Training Regiment, Mobil-
ization Camp, Papakura, and is appointed Chief Instruc-
tor, Artillery Wing, Army School of Instruction,
Trentham. Dated 24th July, 1941.
Captain G. A. Perry relinquishes the appointment of
Instructor, Artillery Wing, Army School of Instruction,
Trentham, and is appointed to command the Depot
Battery, Artillery Training Regiment, Mobilization
Camp, Papakura. Dated 24th July, 1941.
Captain W. H. Ellingham is granted the temporary
rank of Major. Dated 1st June, 1941.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants are granted
the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st June,

George Collen Ferguson to be Lieutenant (temp.).

Lieutenant W. O. Hall, Adjutant, 1st Battalion,
National Military Reserve, is granted the temporary
rank of Captain while so employed. Dated 9th June,
1941.
Captain J. G. W. Salt, Retired List, to be Captain
(temp.), and is appointed Company Commander, No. 1
Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Trentham.
Dated 3rd July, 1941.
Captain J. G. W. Salt relinquishes the appointment
of Company Commander, No. 1 Training Battalion,
Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is reposted to the
Retired List. Dated 23rd July, 1941.
Lieutenant G. M. I. Adams, Deputy Assistant
Quartermaster-General, Central Military District, is
granted the temporary rank of Captain while so
employed. Dated 24th July, 1941.
Lieutenant A. L. H. Barsdell, B.D.S., N.Z. Dental
Corps, to be Captain. Dated 25th July, 1941.
Lieutenant C. E. A. Buller ceases to be attached to
the Camp Instructional Staff, Mobilization Camp, Tren-
tham, dated 26th June, 1941, is appointed Officer
Commanding, Camouflage Unit, Wellington, and is
granted the temporary rank of Captain while so
employed, dated 22nd July, 1941.
Sergeant Raymond Noel Kelly, Camouflage Unit,
Wellington, is granted the temporary rank of 2nd
Lieutenant. Dated 22nd July, 1941.
Captain W. F. Dudson relinquishes the appointment
of Company Commander, No. 2 Training Battalion,
Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is posted to the
Retired List, with the rank of Captain. Dated 5th
August, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) I. P. Nuttall, The Manawatu
Mounted Rifles, to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is
appointed Area Mechanical Transport Officer, No. 6
Area, Wanganui. Dated 12th June, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) D. T. Costelloe, 3rd Com-
posite Company, N.Z. Army Service Corps, to be 2nd
Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed Assistant District
Transport Officer, Southern Military District, Christ-
church. Dated 14th July, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) O. Allen, 5th Reserve
Mechanical Transport Company, N.Z. Army Service
Corps, to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed
Area Mechanical Transport Officer, Area No. 7, Danne-
virke. Dated 23rd July, 1941.
Lieutenant D. P. Howlett, M.M., Retired List, to be
Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed Assistant Area
Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington. Dated 1st July, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant J. R. Simpson, Retired List, to be
2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed Quarter-
master, Guards, Vital Points, Central Military District,
Wellington, vice Lieutenant and Quartermaster K. M.
Hickson, N.Z. Temporary Staff. Dated 7th July, 1941.
COMMANDS.
Colonel J. Ll. Saunders, D.S.O., V.D., relinquishes
command of the 2nd N.Z. Infantry Brigade, and is
appointed Fortress Area Commander, Central Military
District. Dated 31st July, 1941.
Captain (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) G. S. Peren, The
Manawatu Mounted Rifles, relinquishes command of the
Regiment, and the temporary rank of Lieutenant-
Colonel, is appointed to command the 2nd N.Z. Infantry
Brigade, vice Colonel J. Ll. Saunders, D.S.O., V.D.,
and is granted the temporary rank of Colonel while
so employed. Dated 31st July, 1941.
Lieutenant (temp. Major) A. W. Hudson, The Mana-
watu Mounted Rifles, relinquishes the temporary rank
of Major, is appointed to command the regiment, vice
Captain (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) G. S. Peren, and
is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel
while so employed. Dated 31st July, 1941.
Major (temp.) A. O. Glasse, M.C., Corps of N.Z.
Engineers, relinquishes command of the 4th (Works)
Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers, and is appointed
Commander, N.Z. Engineers, Northern Division. Dated
22nd July, 1941.
THE AUCKLAND (EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) H. P. Brasting is granted
the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 4th June,
1941.
N.Z. ARTILLERY.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) F. G. Hill, 9th Heavy Regi-
ment, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant.
Dated 18th July, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) W. W. Bush, 9th Heavy
Regiment, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant.
Dated 19th July, 1941.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (temp.),
and are posted to the 10th Heavy Regiment:—
Roy Thomas Beattie (74th Heavy Battery). Dated
11th July, 1941.
Ian Cosmo Clement (74th Heavy Battery). Dated

Stanley Kennedy (74th Heavy Battery). Dated 14th
July, 1941.
Claude Grahame Warner Quilter to be 2nd Lieutenant
(temp.), and is posted to the 62nd Heavy Battery,
9th Heavy Regiment. Dated 18th July, 1941.
THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (C.R.O.).
With reference to the notice published in the New
Zealand Gazette No. 56, dated 3rd July, 1941, relative
to the appointment of officers to the 2nd Battalion,
for “William Frederick James Johnson” substitute
“William Frederick Charles Johnson.”
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette
No. 56, dated 3rd July, 1941, relative to the appoint-
ment of Neville John Page, is hereby cancelled.
THE WELLINGTON WEST COAST REGIMENT.
Captain E. B. Tustin, from the Reserve of Officers,
Supplementary List, to be Captain (temp.), and is
posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 1st June, 1941.
Lieutenant R. S. Parr, 1st Battalion, is granted the
temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st June, 1941.
THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
Captain T. S. Gillies, M.C., Retired List, to be
Captain (temp.), and is posted to the 2nd Battalion.
Dated 2nd July, 1941.
Robert Austen Young (late Lieutenant, The Canter-
