Major G. G. Hancox, E.D., 2nd Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 5th January, 1941.

Captain R. J. M. Fowler ceases to be posted to the 1st Battalion, is posted to the 2nd Battalion, and is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 1st January, 1941.

Boundaries of Military Areas altered.

Wellington, 30th April, 1941.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve, under section 3, Defence Act, 1909, that the notice published in New Zealand Gazette No. 80, dated 16th December, 1937, defining the boundaries of Areas No. 1 and No. 3, be cancelled, and the following substituted with effect from 25th April, 1941 :-

NO. 1 AREA (HEADQUARTERS, AUCKLAND).

All that area comprising the counties of Manakau, Franklin, and Eden, together with all boroughs and town districts lying within such counties, the boroughs of Devonport, Takapuna, Northcote, Birkenhead, and New Lynn, and the City of Auckland. This area will also include Great Barrier and Little Barrier Islands, and all islands in the Hauraki Gulf.

NO. 3 AREA (HEADQUARTERS, WHANGAREI).

All that area comprising the counties of Mongonui, Whangaroa, Hokianga, Bay of Islands, Hobson, Whangarei, Otamatea, Rodney, Waitemata, together with all boroughs and town districts lying within or contiguous to the boundaries of such counties, other than the boroughs of Devonport, Takapuna, Northcote, Birkenhead, and New Lynn.
