Appointments, Promotions, and Transfers of Officers of the
N.Z. Military Forces.

Wellington, 1st April, 1941.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
and transfers of officers of the N.Z. Military Forces :—
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Major W. H. Allen relinquishes the appointment of Area
Officer, No. 4 Area, Hamilton, and is appointed second
in command, No. 2 Training Battalion, Mobilization
Camp, Papakura. Dated 13th March, 1941.
Major (temp.) R. A. Bradshaw-Smith, B.Sc. (Lond.),
A.M.I.C.E., is appointed Officer Commanding and
Instructor, Engineer Wing, Army School of Instruction,
Trentham, in addition to his appointment as Staff
Officer, Engineers (Training), Army Headquarters, and
retains the temporary rank of Major. Dated 26th
March, 1941.
Captain J. Oliphant, M.C., relinquishes the appointment
of Company Commander, No. 1 Training Battalion,
Mobilization Camp, Papakura, is appointed Area Officer,
No. 4 Area, Hamilton, and is granted the temporary
rank of Major while so employed. Dated 13th March,
1941.
Thomas Romain to be Captain (temp.), and is appointed
Provision Officer, Mechanical Transport, Army Head-
quaters, Wellington. Dated 16th December, 1940.
Captain G. P. Leane, M.C., relinquishes the appointment
of Adjutant, Northern Military District School of
Instruction, Narrow Neck, and is appointed Instructor,
Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow
Neck. Dated 21st November, 1940.
Captain G. P. Leane, M.C., relinquishes the appointment
of Instructor, Northern Military District School of
Instruction, Narrow Neck, and is appointed Adjutant,
Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow
Neck. Dated 13th March, 1941.
Frederick Brayshaw McWhannell, late Australian Imperial
Forces, to be Captain, and is appointed Adjutant, 1st
Battalion, The Waikato Regiment. Dated 1st April,
1940.
Captain F. B. McWhannell relinquishes the appointment
of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Waikato Regiment, and
is appointed Adjutant, Northern Military District School
of Instruction, Narrow Neck, Dated 6th November,
1940.
Captain F. B. McWhannell relinquishes the appointment
of Adjutant, Northern Military District School of
Instruction, Narrow Neck, and is appointed Adjutant,
No. 2 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Papakura.
Dated 13th March, 1941.
Lieutenant T. Bassett, District Transport Officer, Northern
Military District, is granted the temporary rank of
Captain while so employed. Dated 1st November, 1940.
Captain T. Bassett relinquishes the appointment of District
Transport Officer, Northern Military District, is appointed
General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade, Northern Field Force,
and retains the temporary rank of Captain while so
employed. Dated 13th March, 1941.
Lieutenant I. Penrose, is granted the temporary rank of
Captain. Dated 24th February, 1941.
Lieutenant (temp.) Captain J. A. Cresswell, M.C., The
North Auckland Regiment, to be Captain (temp.), and
is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The North Auck-
land Regiment, vice Lieutenant D. MacIntyre, N.Z.
Temporary Staff. Dated 27th February, 1941.
Lieutenant H. G. Bartleet, Adjutant, 3rd Battalion, The
Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), is
granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst so
employed. Dated 1st March, 1941.
Lieutenant B. H. Tosswill is granted the temporary rank
of Captain. Dated 1st March, 1941.
Lieutenant A. F. E. Tylee, B.Sc., is appointed Adjutant,
7th (Works) Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers, in
addition to his appointment as Adjutant, 3rd Field
Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 15th August,
1940.
Lieutenant A. F. E. Tylee, B.Sc., is granted the temporary
rank of Captain. Dated 1st March, 1941.
Lieutenant H. G. Helmore, Reserve of Officers, Supple-
mentary List, to be Captain (temp.) whilst holding the
appointment of Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General.
Dated 20th March, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant K. G. Chamberlain is granted the temporary
rank of Lieutenant. Dated 1st January, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant B. M. B. Williams is granted the temporary
rank of Lieutenant. Dated 1st March, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant R. W. Borland is granted the temporary
rank of Lieutenant. Dated 1st March, 1941.
George Frank Park (late Imperial Army) to be Lieutenant
(temp.). Dated 3rd March, 1941.
Lieutenant C. P. Harper relinquishes the appointment of
Officer Commanding Troops, Artillery Training Regiment,
Mobilization Camp, Papakura, is appointed Chief
Instructor, M.T. Section, Mobilization Camp, Papakura,
and is granted the temporary rank of Captain while so
employed. Dated 7th March, 1941.
William Wood to be Lieutenant (temp.), and is appointed
Provost Officer, Central Military District. Dated 12th
March, 1941.
Lieutenant H. H. Shaw relinquishes the appointment of
M.T. Instructor, Training Cadre, Mobilization Camp,
Papakura, and is appointed District Transport Officer,
Northern Military District. Dated 13th March, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant C. G. Nicol to be Lieutenant, and is
appointed Camp Adjutant, Mobilization Camp, Burn-
ham. Dated 14th March, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant I. F. Draffin is granted the temporary rank
of Lieutenant. Dated 16th March, 1941.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster H. B. Craighead, 2nd Field
Regiment, N.Z. Artillery, to be Lieutenant (temp.), and
is appointed Camp Quartermaster, Foxton Military
Camp. Dated 19th March, 1941.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) W. H. Ellingham, The Taranaki
Regiment, to be Captain (temp.). Dated 5th March, 1941.
Lieutenant (temp.) G. C. O’Hara, The Auckland Regiment

QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED
RIFLES.
Captain P. H. Surrey is transferred to the Reserve of
Officers, Class I (b), Area 8. Dated 14th March, 1941.
N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Major V. P. Haughton, V.D., from the Reserve of Officers,
to be Major, with seniority from 14th March, 1925, and
is appointed second in command, 2nd Field Regiment.
Dated 20th March, 1941.
Lieutenant G. Nelson, 8th Battery, 8th Medium Regiment,
is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st
January, 1941.
Lieutenant (temp.) J. G. R. Morley ceases to be posted to
the 8th Battery, 8th Medium Regiment, and is posted
to the 37th Battery, 12th Field Regiment. Dated 13th
March, 1941.
Lieutenant F. S. Salinger ceases to be posted to the 6th
Battery, 3rd Field Regiment, and is posted to the 18th
Heavy Battery, 11th Heavy Regiment, with seniority
from 10th March, 1941. Dated 17th March, 1941.
John Sydney Ham to be Lieutenant and Quartermaster
(temp.), 2nd Field Regiment. Dated 13th March, 1941.
Lieutenant J. R. Woods, 2nd Battery, 1st Field Regiment,
is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b),
Area 1. Dated 10th March, 1941.
The notice published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 17, dated
27th February, 1941, relative to the appointment of
George Sylvanus Jeffs, is hereby cancelled.
