SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LANDS.
Clutha County.—Taufuku Survey District.—Otago Mining District.
SECTION 6, Block IV: Area, 23 acres 2 roods 8 perches. Capital value, £10; half-yearly rent, 4s.
Weighted with £14 (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising fencing, felling, and grassing.
Section 8, Block IV: Area, 23 acres 0 roods 16 perches. Capital value, £12; half-yearly rent, 4s. 10d.
Weighted with £45 (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising felling and grassing.
The sections are situated three miles from Maclennan Railway-station and School, seventeen miles from Owaka Saleyards and two miles from Papatowai Post-office.
Section 6 has a south-westerly aspect and falls down to sea-coast in sharp decline. About 3 acres old felling in grass, balance section in bush and second growth. The soil is a sharp loam on rock bottom. Access by main highway.
Section 8 has a north-easterly aspect and is fairly well sheltered from south-west weather. Approximately 15 acres felled and in grass, balance in bush and second growth. Soil sharp and grass holds well. Note.—The section is approximately 18 chains by unformed road from the Catlins-Invercargill Main Highway, and the Department accepts no responsibility to improve this access in any way.

Land in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Nelson, 20th August, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, up to 11 o’clock a.m., on Tuesday, 8th October, 1940.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Nelson, on Thursday, 10th October, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and amount of weighting for improvements.
NOTE.—This section is offered in terms of section 153 of the Land Act, 1924, which provides that no right to any mineral under the surface shall pertain to the lessee, whose rights shall be to the surface soil only.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Buller County.—Kongahu Survey District.—Karamea Mining District.
SECTION 12 (formerly part Section 9,) Block VII: Area, 22 acres. Capital value, £20; half-yearly rent, 8s.
Weighted with £128 (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising six-roomed dwelling (not completed), out-buildings, felling and grassing, and 16 chains fencing.
Situated half a mile from Corbyvale Post-office, twelve miles from Mokihinui Railway-station, fourteen miles from Seddonville School, and thirty-eight miles from Buller Valley Dairy Factory. Access is from Mokihinui by metalled road. The area is flat, 15 acres having been felled and grassed the balance being in standing bush. Soil is of fair quality on gravel and sandstone formation; well watered by creeks. The house is fairly new, the completed portion being in good condition. The area is suitable as a home for someone with outside employment.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 19th August, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at noon on Friday, the 6th day of September, 1940.
SCHEDULE.
WESTLAND FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.
ALL the milling-timber on those pieces of land containing together 95 acres, being part of Provisional State Forest No. 1660, and situated in Blocks V, VI, and IX, Kopara Survey District, about seven (7) miles from Te Kinga Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 172,008, or in board feet 1,133,800, made up as follows:—

Terms of Payment.
A marked cheque for one-quarter (¼) of the purchase price, together with £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid in three equal quarterly instalments, the first falling due three months after the date of sale.
Terms and Conditions.
- All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.
- The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921–22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.
- The aforementioned quality, quantity, and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, or kind as stated herein or in a advertisement having reference to the said timber.
- A return giving the number of logs cut of each species and their contents must be made quarterly by the licensee on the last days of March, June, September, and December, respectively, in each year. A return must also be made on the same dates showing the output of sawn timber of each species. These returns may be ascertained and verified by inspection of the books of the mill, or by such other means as the Conservator may require, and for this purpose the accounts and books shall be open to the inspection of the Conservator, a Forest Ranger, or other duly authorized officer.
- The attention of tenderers is drawn to the fact that the local controlling body may require the successful bidder to pay any claims or charges which may be made by that body for the maintenance of the road over which the timber may be transported, and before a sawmill license is issued a letter indicating that satisfactory arrangements have been made in this connection must be produced to the undersigned.
- Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relative to the sale.
- Each tenderer must state the total price that he is prepared to pay for the timber. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted, and the timber described is submitted for sale subject to the final acceptance of the tender by the Commissioner of State Forests.
- The right is reserved to the Commissioner of State Forests to withdraw from sale any or all of the said timber either before or after the closing date for the receipt of tenders.
- If no tender is accepted for the timber herein mentioned it will remain open for application for three months from the date tenders close.
- Tenders should be on the special form obtainable from any office of the State Forest Service, and should be enclosed in envelopes addressed “Conservator of Forests, Hokitika,” and endorsed “Tender for Timber.”
The conditions, which will be inserted in the license to be issued to the purchaser, and further particulars may be obtained on application to the undersigned or to the Director of Forestry, Wellington.
