taratar, carbonate of soda, ginger, lemon peel, orange peel,
and washing powders—be prohibited during such time as
the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the
Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:

And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in
the said trade within the said town district, and that the
signatures to such petition represent a majority of the
occupiers of all the said shops within the said town district:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said
Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 26th day of
August, 1940, the sale of the said goods within the said
town district shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the
hour of 5.30 p.m., on Fridays after the hour of 8.30 p.m., and on
Saturdays after the hour of 1 p.m.

Auckland Cement-Asbestos Workers' Labour Legislation
Suspension Order 1940.
WHEREAS it appears to me to be expedient for maintaining supplies and services essential to the life of
the community, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour,
pursuant to the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations
1940, do hereby order as follows:—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Auckland Cement-
    Asbestos Workers' Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1940.

  2. This order applies to the cement-asbestos workers
    employed by James Hardie and Company Proprietary,
    Limited, Penrose, Auckland, and to the employer of such
    workers.

  3. The provisions of subclause (b) of clause 3 of the Northern
    Industrial District Cement-Asbestos Workers' Award dated
    the 21st day of November, 1938, and recorded in Book of
    Awards, Volume XXXVIII, page 3351, shall be and are
    hereby suspended in respect of any week in which the
    employer desires that more shifts than the five eight-hour
    shifts provided therein be worked, subject, however, to the
    conditions hereinafter prescribed.

  4. When in any week the employer desires that more
    shifts than five be worked in pursuance of this Order, then
    and in such case shifts shall be worked on each of the seven
    days of that week: Provided that all time worked after
    1 p.m. on Saturdays shall be paid for at the rate of time
    and a half for the first three hours and double time thereafter, and all time worked on Sundays shall be paid for at
    the rate of double time.

  5. This Order shall come into effect on and from the date
    of publication thereof in the Gazette.

Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Auckland) Order 1940.
PURSUANT to the Oil Fuel Retail Hours Emergency
Regulations 1940, and pursuant to a requisition in
writing received in that behalf, I, Patrick Charles Webb,
Minister of Labour, do hereby direct as follows:—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours
    (Auckland) Order 1940.

  2. This Order shall come into force on the 19th day of
    August, 1940.

  3. This Order shall apply to all establishments engaged
    in the sale by retail of oil fuel and situate within the area
    defined as “Area 3” in the Motor-spirits Prices (Auckland
    Provincial) Regulations 1938, Serial Number 1938/48.

  4. On and after the coming into force of this Order all
    such establishments except as hereinafter provided shall be
    closed for the sale of oil fuel during the whole of every Sunday
    and shall on every Friday be opened for the sale of oil fuel
    from 7.30 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on
    every Friday and on every other day of the week be opened
    for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 6 p.m. and closed
    at all other times on the said respective days: Provided
    that such establishments shall be closed for the sale of oil
    fuel during the whole of every Christmas Day, Good Friday,
    and Anzac Day, and on the day immediately preceding
    Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day respectively,
    shall be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till
    9 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective
    days.

  5. This Order shall not apply to the establishment operated
    by Cadman’s Parking Station, Limited, at Greys Avenue,
    Auckland, or to the establishment operated by Shorter’s
    Rental Cars, Limited, at Shortland Street, Auckland, or to
    the establishment operated by the North Shore Transport
    Company, Limited, at Takapuna, Auckland.

  6. Nothing in this Order shall apply to the establishment
    of the Air Transport and Touring Automobiles of New
    Zealand, Limited, at Auckland, or to the establishment of
    the Checker Taxi-cabs Society of New Zealand, Limited, at
    Auckland, in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the taxi-
    cabs operated by such two companies.

  7. Nothing in this Order shall affect the establishment of
    the Lane Motor Boat Company, Limited, Auckland, or the
    establishment of Messrs. Collings and Bell, Auckland, in
    respect of the supply of oil fuel to launches.

Regulations 1940, and pursuant to a requisition in

  1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours
    (Wellington) Order 1940.

  2. This Order shall come into force on the 19th day of
    August, 1940.

  3. This Order shall apply to all establishments engaged in
    the sale by retail of oil fuel and situate in the area comprising
    the City of Wellington, the Boroughs of Petone, Lower Hutt,
    Upper Hutt, and Eastbourne, the Town District of Johnson-
    ville, the Makara County, and that part of the Hutt County
    south of a line drawn between the trig. station named
    “Rimutaka” (situated in Block XVI, Akatarawa Survey
    District) and the trig. station named “Paekakariki”
    (situated in Section 53, Wainui District, Block III, Paekakariki
    Survey District) and produced to the sea.

  4. On and after the coming into force of this Order all such
    establishments except as hereinafter provided shall be
    closed for the whole of every Sunday and for the whole of
    every Good Friday, Anzac Day, and Christmas Day, and
    shall on every Friday be opened for the sale of oil fuel from
    7.30 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on every
    Friday, and on every other day of the week be opened for
    the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 6 p.m. and closed at
    all other times on the said respective days: Provided that
    on the day immediately preceding Good Friday and Christmas
    Day respectively all such establishments shall be closed at
    midnight in lieu of the hour hereinbefore prescribed.

  5. In every successive week commencing upon the coming
    into force of this Order one of the establishments hereinafter
    named shall, in the weekly rotation hereinafter set out, be
    opened for the sale of oil fuel on every Sunday from 7.30 a.m.
    till 9 p.m. and on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
    Thursday, and Saturday shall remain open till 9 p.m. in lieu
    of 6 p.m.:—

Name of Establishments.
First week .. Baigent Motors Limited, Upper Hutt.
Second week .. E. R. Menzies, Heretaunga Service
Station, Trentham.
Third week .. Upper Hutt Petrol Supplies Limited,
Upper Hutt.
Fourth week .. Howell Motors Limited, Main Road,
Trentham.
Fifth week .. E. Gething, Premier Motors, Upper Hutt.

  1. The establishment of E. Gething, Premier Motors, Upper
    Hutt, and the establishment of E. R. Menzies, Heretaunga
    Service Station, Trentham, shall, notwithstanding the fore-
    going provisions of this Order, and in addition to the times
    hereinbefore specified, be opened for the sale of oil fuel on
    every day from midnight till 7.30 a.m. and from 9 p.m. till
    midnight.

  2. Nothing in this Order shall apply to the establishments
    hereinafter named:—

Woodman’s Service Station, Main Road, Tawa Flat.
C. E. Fisher’s V.I.C. Service Station, High Street, Lower
Hutt.

  1. The establishment of Emergency Petrol Service, Limited,
    Jervois Quay, Wellington, shall be opened for the sale of oil
    fuel during the whole of every Sunday, and on every Friday
    shall be opened for the sale of oil fuel from midnight till
    7.30 a.m. and from 9 p.m. till midnight, and on every other
    day of the week shall be opened for the sale of oil fuel from
    midnight till 7.30 a.m. and from 6 p.m. till midnight.
