Appointments and Transfers of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, &c., of officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force :—

REGULAR AIR FORCE.

GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH.

Appointment.

Group Captain Francis Esmé Theodore Hewlett, D.S.O., O.B.E. (Retired List), is re-employed in the temporary rank of Wing Commander. Dated 12th August, 1940.

EQUIPMENT BRANCH, SECTION I.

Appointment.

John Baxter Smillie is granted a temporary commission in the rank of Flying Officer. Dated 1st July, 1940.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND SPECIAL DUTIES BRANCH.

Appointments.

The undermentioned are appointed to the Administrative and Special Duties Branch. Dated 1st July, 1940 :—

Flight Lieutenant Frederick Stanley Gordon, D.F.C. (Reserve of Officers), in the rank of Flying Officer (Honorary Flight Lieutenant), with seniority from 4th September, 1939.

Flying Officer Edwyn Arnold Fraser Wilding in his present rank, with seniority from 4th September, 1939.

Arnold Ewart William McDonald is granted a temporary commission in the rank of Flying Officer (on probation). Dated 17th June, 1940.

The undermentioned are granted temporary commissions in the rank of Flying Officer (on probation). Dated 1st July, 1940 :—

Transfer.

Flying Officer Ross Bongard Waters is transferred to the Administrative and Special Duties Branch in his present rank and with his present seniority. Dated 5th August, 1940.

Erratum.

In the notice “Administrative and Special Duties Branch, Appointments,” published in New Zealand Gazette No. 74 of the 18th July, 1940, on page 1714, the appointment of Flying Officer Henry Clifford Leese, dated 4th July, 1940, is amended to “Dated 4th June, 1940.”

Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Resignations of Officers of the New Zealand Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—

STAFF.

Lieutenant and Quartermaster, G. W. O’Sullivan, N.Z. Permanent Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Camp Quartermaster, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 18th July, 1940.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 1, dated 11th January, 1940, relative to the appointment of Major G. R. Blackett, M.C., Retired List, is hereby cancelled and the following substituted :—

“Major G. R. Blackett, M.C., Retired List, to be Major, with pay and allowances of a Captain, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 29th November, 1899.”

Major T. A. H. Oliphant, M.C., relinquishes the appointment of Second in Command, Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Papakura, dated 26th June, 1940, and is appointed Camp Commandant, Mobilization Camp, Ngāruawāhia, with the pay and allowances of a Major while holding such appointment. Dated 27th June, 1940.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 74, dated 18th July, 1940, relative to the appointment of Lieutenant J. M. C. McLeod, M.C., Retired List, is hereby cancelled and the following substituted :—

“Lieutenant J. M. C. McLeod, M.C., Retired List, to be Major, and is appointed Officer Commanding No. 2 Training Battalion, Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 2nd April, 1940.”

Albert Arthur Luckham, C.B.E., to be Captain, and is appointed Assistant Adjutant, Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 21st March, 1940.

George Donald Sutherland, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 11th July, 1940.

Nicholas Martin Bradanovich, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 20th July, 1940.

Ethelbert Paul Pickerill, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 26th July, 1940.

Lieutenant D. W. Earle relinquishes the appointment of Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp, Trentham, and is attached to the Royal N.Z. Air Force Station, Ohakea. Dated 31st July, 1940.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.

The undermentioned Lieutenants are granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st June, 1940 :—

THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.

Captain A. H. Ferguson is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 6. Dated 24th July, 1940.

THE WELLINGTON EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. T. Thomson is granted the temporary rank of Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 25th June, 1940.

N.Z. ARTILLERY.

Lieutenant J. R. Woods, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant (temp.), with seniority from 24th June, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Field Regiment. Dated 17th July, 1940.

Lieutenant L. A. Johnson, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant (temp.), with seniority from 26th June, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Field Regiment. Dated 17th July, 1940.

Lieutenant A. G. Coulam, from the Reserve of Officers, The North Auckland Regiment, to be Lieutenant (temp.), with seniority from 26th June, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Field Regiment. Dated 17th July, 1940.

Lieutenant R. W. Yates, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, and is posted to the 13th Heavy Battery. Dated 4th September, 1939.

Lieutenant R. W. Yates, 9th Heavy Regiment, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 28th June, 1940.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

Andrew Murray, A.M.I.C.E., to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 1st Field Company. Dated 24th June, 1940.

N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.

2nd Lieutenant E. P. Sandura, B.Sc., Southern District Signal Company, to be Lieutenant. Dated 1st July, 1940.
