IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred on me by the Native Land Act, 1931, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand do hereby appoint
Charles Edward MacCormick, Esquire,
to be Chief Judge of the Native Land Court to hold office during my pleasure on and from the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and forty, and I do require you the said Charles Edward MacCormick to enter upon and duly discharge the duties of the said office as in the said Act provided.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 27th day of January, 1940.

PURSUANT to the authority conferred upon me by the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding the offices stated opposite their names respectively in the said Schedule, are authorized to take and receive statutory declarations under the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments in the New Zealand Naval Forces :—
Commander Brian Lifford Hewitt, O.B.E., R.N. (Emergency List), appointed to H.M.S. “Philomel” additional for H.M.S. “Alexander” in command for passage from Wellington to Auckland, to date 12th January, 1940, and for duty with Captain Superintendent, Auckland (for fitting out of H.M.S. “Alexander”), on arrival at Auckland, and for H.M.S. “Alexander” in command on commissioning as Senior Officer, New Zealand Mine-sweeping Flotilla (date to be reported); to serve in rank of Commander.
Lieutenant Sydney Warren Hicks, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand), re-appointed to H.M.S. “Leander,” additional, in continuation of present appointment, to date 15th January, 1940.
