HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :-
STAFF.
Colonel P. H. Bell, D.S.O., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Officer Commanding, Southern Military District, Christchurch, and is attached to Army Headquarters. Dated 16th January, 1940.
Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Stevens, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery, ceases to be seconded for duty with the Prime Minister’s Department as Secretary of the Organization for National Security and Secretary of the Council of Defence. Dated 9th January, 1940.
Lieutenant-Colonel E. T. Rowlings, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Adjutant-General, Army Headquarters, Wellington, is appointed Officer Commanding, Southern Military District, Christchurch, and is granted the temporary rank of Colonel while so employed. Dated 16th January, 1940.
Major V. G. Jervis, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Staff Officer, “A” Duties, Army Headquarters, is appointed Deputy Adjutant-General, Army Headquarters, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while so employed. Dated 16th January, 1940.
Captain D. M. Robertson, E.D., N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Staff Officer, Personnel, Army Headquarters, is appointed Staff Officer, “A” Duties, Army Headquarters, and is granted the temporary rank of Major while so employed. Dated 16th January, 1940.
Major H. D. McHugh, M.C., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Camp Commandant, Papakura Military Camp, dated 10th December, 1939, is appointed Camp Commandant, Trentham Military Camp, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, dated 11th December, 1939.
Captain (temporary Major) V. J. Innes, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Administrative Commandant, Trentham Military Area, is appointed Staff Officer, “Q” Duties, Army Headquarters, Wellington, and retains the temporary rank of Major. Dated 5th December, 1939.
Lieutenant J. A. Worsnop, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own) and Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 3rd Grade, Northern Military District, Auckland. Dated 5th January, 1940.
Lieutenant W. H. Behague, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 1st Composite Company, N.Z. Army Service Corps. Dated 4th December, 1939.
Lieutenant C. R. Nathan, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 5th January, 1940.
Lieutenant W. R. K. Morrison, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), and Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 5th January, 1940.
REGIMENT OF ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant-Colonel (temporary Colonel) W. G. Stevens relinquishes the temporary rank of Colonel. Dated 18th December, 1939.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Major C. W. Salmon, D.C.M., Retired List, to be Major, and is attached to the Quartermaster-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 11th September, 1939.
Captain B. Barrington, to be Major. Dated 5th January, 1940.
Captain E. J. Brammall, Retired List, to be Captain, and is attached to the Adjutant-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 3rd January, 1940.
Captain C. L. Mullaney, Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Captain, and is appointed assistant to the Director of Mobilization, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 26th December, 1939.
Captain O. D. Sutcliffe, Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Captain, and is attached to the Quartermaster-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 1st January, 1940.
George Ernest Patterson (acting W.O. I. Bandmaster, 3rd Artillery Brigade Group), to be Bandmaster, Burnham Military Camp Band, and is granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 3rd January, 1940.
QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant N. A. Sorenson resigns his commission. Dated 19th December, 1939.
2nd Lieutenant S. W. Askew to be Lieutenant. Dated 9th October, 1939.
THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain B. H. Pringle is transferred to the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles. Dated 10th January, 1940.
THE WELLINGTON EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain B. H. Pringle, from the Manawatu Mounted Rifles, to be Captain, with seniority from 2nd October, 1931. Dated 10th January, 1940.
REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Captain A. R. Munro ceases to be posted to the 14th Medium Battery and is posted to the 13th Heavy Battery. Dated 23rd September, 1939.
THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).
Captain J. F. Ilewitt, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, with seniority from 29th June, 1937, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 4th January, 1940.

Albert Harold Burt to be 2nd Lieutenant (temporary) and is posted to the 2nd Composite Company. Dated 1st January, 1940.
N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.
Major J. H. H. Wood, M.B., Ch.B., 1st Field Ambulance, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding the 1st Field Ambulance. Dated 13th January, 1940.
Lieutenant T. E. Miller, M.B., Ch.B., attached to the 1st Battalion, The Hauraki Regiment, resigns his commission. Dated 28th December, 1939.
