Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Resignations of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—

STAFF.

The appointment of Major-General J. E. Duigan, C.B., D.S.O., N.Z. Staff Corps, as Chief of the General Staff, is extended to 31st March, 1941.

Captain (temporary Major) L. P. Davies, O.B.E., N.Z. Dental Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Director of Dental Services, Army Headquarters. Dated 17th September, 1939.

Lieutenant J. S. Hanna, N.Z. Army Legal Department, is appointed Legal Staff Officer, Central Military District, vice Major C. A. L. Treadwell, O.B.E., N.Z. Army Legal Department, seconded for duty with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 15th March, 1940.

Major C. C. Muscroft-Taylor, N.Z. Staff Corps, ceases to be posted to the 2nd Heavy Artillery Group, N.Z.A., and is appointed District Artillery Officer, Central Military District, Wellington. Dated 17th March, 1940.

Captain B. Wicksteed, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes the appointment of District Artillery Officer, Central Military District, on being seconded for duty with the Fiji Defence Force. Dated 17th March, 1940.

Lieutenant A. Molineaux, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Instructor, Central Military District School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 5th January, 1940.

Lieutenant D. C. Povrie, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Instructor, Central Military District School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 5th January, 1940.

Lieutenant L. G. S. Cross, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Instructor, Central Military District School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 5th January, 1940.

Lieutenant L. G. S. Cross, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Instructor, Central Military District School of Instruction, Trentham, and is posted to Area No. 6, Wanganui. Dated 2nd March, 1940.

Lieutenant L. G. S. Cross, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Assistant Area Officer, Area No. 6, and Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Wellington West Coast Regiment, Wanganui. Dated 10th March, 1940.

COMMANDS.

Lieutenant-Colonel L. H. Jardine, D.S.O., M.C., The Taranaki Regiment, is appointed to command the 1st Battalion, vice Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D., seconded for duty with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 7th January, 1940.

Major R. McPherson, M.C., Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, is appointed to command the 10th Field Battery. Dated 12th March, 1940.

Lieutenant J. G. McIntosh, M.Sc., N.Z. Corps of Signals, relinquishes command of the Central District Signal Company. Dated 12th March, 1940.

Lieutenant (temporary) G. H. J. Underwood, N.Z. Corps of Signals, is appointed to command the Central District Signal Company temporarily. Dated 13th March, 1940.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Major J. R. V. Sherston, D.S.O., M.C., to be Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 18th December, 1939.

Lieutenant-Colonel C. N. Newman, D.S.O., Reserve of Officers, Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, to be Major, and is appointed District Artillery Officer, Northern Military District, Auckland. Dated 18th March, 1940.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.

Captain R. J. Rutherford, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, with seniority from 8th February, 1938. Dated 11th March, 1940.

Lieutenant L. D. Hickford, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 29th March, 1935. Dated 20th March, 1940.

THE WELLINGTON EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES.

Captain W. H. Ebbitt, E.D., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, with seniority from 2nd September, 1936. Dated 20th March, 1940.

THE NORTH AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.

Captain N. C. Shepherd, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, with seniority from 21st August, 1933. Dated 30th January, 1940.

Lieutenant D. A. Finlayson, Retired List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 18th April, 1937. Dated 26th February, 1940.

REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.

Major R. McPherson, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Major, with seniority from 27th August, 1938, and is posted to the 10th Field Battery. Dated 12th March, 1940.

Lieutenant J. F. C. Wilson, 23rd Heavy Battery, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st March, 1940.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

Kenneth Hector Melvin (late Lieutenant, Corps of N.Z. Engineers) to be Lieutenant, and is posted to the 1st Field Company. Dated 21st February, 1940.

2nd Lieutenant J. J. Corcoran, from the Reserve of Officers, to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st June, 1939, and is posted to the 1st Field Company. Dated 19th March, 1940.

N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.

George Henry James Underwood (2nd Lieutenant, Territorial Army Reserve of Officers, Royal Corps of Signals) to be Lieutenant (temporary), with seniority from 30th June, 1938, and is posted to the Central District Signal Company. Dated 13th March, 1940.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY'S OWN).

Captain N. J. Hutton, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, with seniority from 30th June, 1937, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 20th March, 1940.

THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.

Colonel Sir Stephen S. Allen, K.B.E., C.M.G., D.S.O., V.D., Reserve of Officers, to be Honorary Colonel of the Regiment. Dated 5th February, 1940.

THE WAIKATO REGIMENT.

The undermentioned Lieutenants cease to be posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion and are posted to the 2nd Cadet Battalion. Dated 15th March, 1940:—

THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT (CITY OF WELLINGTON'S OWN).

THE WELLINGTON WEST COAST REGIMENT.

Lieutenant O. Warnock, 1st Battalion, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 3rd September, 1939.

THE HAWKE'S BAY REGIMENT.

The undermentioned Lieutenants, 1st Battalion, are granted the temporary rank of Captain:—

D. P. Lindsay. Dated 11th March, 1940.
A. W. Bird, M.M. Dated 12th March, 1940.

Lieutenant C. C. Marsack, 1st Battalion, to be temporary Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 13th March, 1940.

2nd Lieutenant L. D. Walcs, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 1st February, 1940.

THE TARANAKI REGIMENT.

Lieutenant-Colonel L. H. Jardine, D.S.O., M.C., from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant-Colonel, with seniority from 7th February, 1935, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 7th February, 1940.

THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.

Lieutenant A. H. C. Cavell, from the Reserve of Officers, The Otago Regiment, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st March, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 16th March, 1940.
