HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of officers of the N.Z. Military Forces :—

STAFF.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster H. D. Harvey, N.Z. Permanent Staff, relinquishes the appointments of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Wellington West Coast Regiment, and Assistant Area Officer, No. 6 Area, Wanganui, on being seconded for duty with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 10th March, 1940.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 18 of the 7th March, 1940, relative to Lieutenant A. J. Young, N.Z. Staff Corps, for “Napier” substitute “Hastings.”

Lieutenant A. J. Young, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 7 Area, Hastings, in addition to his present appointment. Dated 26th March, 1940.

COMMANDS.
Major (temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) W. McK. Geddes, M.C., Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes command of the 1st Heavy Artillery Group, and the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), No. 1 Area. Dated 13th November, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel K. W. Fraser, Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes command of the 13th Heavy Battery, and is appointed to command the 1st Heavy Artillery Group. Dated 14th November, 1939.
Lieutenant-Colonel K. W. Fraser, Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes command of the 1st Heavy Artillery Group, on being seconded for duty with the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 29th February, 1940.
Major E. F. Clayton-Greene, O.B.E., Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, is appointed to command the 1st Heavy Artillery Group temporarily, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1st March, 1940.

N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 22 of the 5th April, 1939, relative to the promotion of Lieutenant-Colonel (temporary Colonel) O. H. Mead, D.S.O., for “Dated 1st April, 1939” substitute “Dated 27th July, 1937.”

Lieutenant-Colonel (temporary Colonel) N. W. McD. Weir to be Colonel. Dated 1st March, 1940.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Lieutenant M. P. W. Blathwayt to be Captain. Dated 1st April, 1940.
Captain A. H. Jones, 2nd Field Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers, to be Captain, and is appointed District Engineer Works Officer, Central Military District, Wellington. Dated 1st April, 1940.
Captain C. R. Duke, The Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment, to be Captain, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 9 Area, Nelson. Dated 14th March, 1940.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster H. G. Williams, The Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment. Dated 14th March, 1940.
Lieutenant (acting Captain) H. a’C. G. Fitzgerald relinquishes the appointment of Senior Dental Officer, Maori Battalion Camp, Palmerston North, and the acting rank of Captain, and is appointed Dental Officer, Central Military District Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 30th March, 1940.
Francis Norcott Hornibrook, A.N.Z.I.A., L.R.I.B.A., A.M.I.S.E. (Lond.), M.R.S.I. (Lond.), to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Instructor, Central Military District Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 20th February, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant G. F. Vance to be Lieutenant. Dated 5th October, 1939.

THE AUCKLAND (EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant O. P. Coleman from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 24th February, 1940. Dated 28th March, 1940.

THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.
Colonel J. H. Whyte, D.S.O., D.C.M., to be Honorary Colonel of the Regiment. Dated 26th February, 1940.
