Lands in Wellington Land District for Selection.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 24th January, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to noon, on Monday, 26th February, 1940.
The land described in the First Schedule may, at the option of the applicants, be purchased for cash or on deferred payments or be selected on renewable lease. The land described in the Second Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, 28th February, 1940, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit in reduction of improvement loading.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Waimarino County.—Mangamui Survey District.
SECTIONS 11 and 11A, Block XII : Area, 105 acres 0 roods 20 perches. Capital value, £30. Deposit on deferred payments, £5. Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, 16s. 3d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, 12s.
Weighted with £107 for improvements, comprising dwelling, shed (both in very poor condition), 90 chains fencing, and 65 acres felled and grassed. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £42, the balance to be secured by mortgage for five years with interest at the rate of 4½ per cent. The successful applicant will have to meet the costs of preparation of this mortgage.
This property is situated on the Tamaranui—Ruatiti Road five miles from Horopito Post-office and School, one mile from Pokaka Railway-station; access by good metalled road. The soil is light volcanic loam resting on clay and iron pan formation; watered by a stream on the south boundary. About 65 acres in worn-out pasture and 40 acres in the natural state. Altitude, 2,000 ft.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Kaitieke County.—Kaitieke Survey District.
(Exempt from payment of rent for three years.)
SECTIONS 7, 9, 32, and 33, Block XII: Area, 404 acres 1 rood 32 perches. Capital value, £200; half-yearly rent, £4. Weighted with £312 for improvements, comprising fencing, and 100 acres cleared and grassed on Sections 32 and 33; 55 chains boundary fencing on Section 9; and 93 chains fencing, 120 acres cleared and grassed, and shed, on Section 7. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £12, the balance to be secured by mortgage for fifteen years by half-yearly instalments with interest at 5 per cent. The half-yearly instalment would be £14 6s. 9d., and the expense of the preparation and registration of this mortgage is to be borne by the selector.
This property is situated on the Raurimu—Tauramarui Road one mile from Raurimu, fifteen miles from the Kaitieke Dairy Factory, and twelve miles from Owhango, access being by metalled road. The soil is of light loam resting on papa formation; well watered by springs and streams. Some 30 acres is easy hill country, the balance being hilly and broken and lying away from the sun. Sections 32 and 33 are infested with ragwort and blackberry. The area is suitable for working in conjunction with an adjoining property.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 19th January, 1940.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at 4 p.m. on Friday, the 16th day of February, 1940.

SCHEDULE.
WESTLAND FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.
ALL the milling-timber on that piece of land containing 128 acres, situated in Block XII, Arnold Survey District, Provisional State Forest No. 1600, approximately four miles from the Kaitaia Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 244,173, or in board feet 1,570,980, made up as follows:—

Terms of Payment.
A marked cheque for one-sixth of the purchase money, together with £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid in five equal quarterly instalments, the first falling due three months after the date of sale.
Terms and Conditions.

All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921-22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.

The aforementioned quality, quantity, and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, or kind as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.

A return giving the number of logs cut of each species and their contents must be made quarterly by the licensee on the last days of March, June, September, and December, respectively, in each year. A return must also be made on the same dates showing the output of sawn timber of each species. These returns may be ascertained and verified by inspection of the books of the mill, or by such other means as the Conservator may require, and for this purpose the accounts and books shall be open to the inspection of the Conservator, a Forest Ranger, or other duly authorized officer.

The attention of all tenderers is drawn to the fact that the local controlling body may require the successful tenderer to pay any claims or charges which may be made by that body for the maintenance of the road over which the timber may be transported, and before a sawmill license is issued a letter indicating that satisfactory arrangements have been made in this connection must be produced to the undersigned.

Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relative to the sale.

Each tenderer must state the total price that he is prepared to pay for the timber. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted, and the timber described is submitted for sale subject to the final acceptance of the tender by the Commissioner of State Forests.

The right is reserved to the Commissioner of State Forests to withdraw from sale any or all of the said timber either before or after the closing date for receipt of tenders.

If no tender is accepted for the timber herein mentioned it will remain open for application for three months from the date tenders close.

Tenders should be on the special form obtainable from any office of the State Forest Service, and should be enclosed in envelopes addressed “Conservator of Forests, Hokitika,” and endorsed “Tender for Timber.”
The conditions, which will be inserted in the license to be issued to the purchaser, and further particulars may be obtained on application to the undersigned or to the Director of Forestry, Wellington.
