Second Lieutenant W. A. Moore, M.M., Retired List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Officer Commanding, No. 2 Platoon, “A” Company, New Zealand Regular Force, Trentham. Dated 23rd December, 1939.
Second Lieutenant D. O. Williams, Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Second Lieutenant, is attached to the Adjutant-General’s Branch, Army Headquarters, Wellington, and is granted the honorary rank of Captain. Dated 12th February, 1940.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 145, dated 20th December, 1939, relative to the appointment of Second Lieutenant Holderness for “G. R. Holderness” substitute “G. Holderness.”
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 14, dated 22nd February, 1940, relative to the appointment of Lieutenant B. H. K. Young is cancelled and the following substituted :—
“Lieutenant B. H. K. Young, Reserve of Officers, New Zealand Dental Corps, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Dental Officer, Burnham Military Camp. Dated 27th December, 1939.”
THE AUCKLAND (EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant C. S. White, D.C.M., from the Reserve of Officers, The Waikato Mounted Rifles, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 17th February, 1940. Dated 26th February, 1940.
THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major O. L. Ferens, E.D., is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 20th February, 1940.
REGIMENT OF NEW ZEALAND ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant J. R. Bennett, 22nd Anti-Aircraft Battery, is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st January, 1940.
THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.
Lieutenant J. R. Bongard, M.C., from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 6th February, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 23rd February, 1940.
THE WAIKATO REGIMENT.
Major E. M. Mackersey, 1st Battalion, to be Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 20th February, 1940.
THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
Captain P. W. J. Cockerill (supernumerary to establishment) is absorbed into the 1st Battalion, with seniority from 17th September, 1938. Dated 22nd February, 1940.
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.
Major J. M. Twigg, M.D., M.R.C.P., London, ceases to be seconded to the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Dated 27th February, 1940.
Roderick Graeme Stuart Ferguson, M.B., Ch.B., to be Lieutenant, Northern Military District (unattached). Dated 17th February, 1940.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, and transfers of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—
STAFF.
Lieutenant-Colonel R. B. Smythe, D.S.O., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of General Staff Officer, 2nd Grade, Southern Military District, and is appointed Area Staff Officer, No. 10 Area, Christchurch. Dated 1st February, 1940.
Major A. Bongard, M.C., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Area Staff Officer, No. 11 Area, Dunedin, is appointed General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, Southern Military District, Christchurch, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while so employed. Dated 1st February, 1940.
Captain A. J. Moore, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Southern Military District School of Instruction, Burnham, is appointed Area Staff Officer, No. 11 Area, Dunedin, and is granted the temporary rank of Major while so employed. Dated 1st February, 1940.
Major H. M. Foster, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Camp Commandant, Burnham Military Camp, dated 11th January, 1940, is appointed General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, Central Military District, Wellington, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while so employed. Dated 23rd January, 1940.
Major L. W. Andrew, V.C., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-General, Central Military District, Wellington, on being seconded for duty with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Dated 11th January, 1940.
Captain J. N. Henry, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Area Officer, No. 8 Area, Hawera, is appointed Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-General, Central Military District, Wellington, and is granted the temporary rank of Major while so employed. Dated 12th January, 1940.
Lieutenant A. J. Young, N.Z. Staff Corps, ceases to be seconded to the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force and is appointed Adjutant, The Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, Napier. Dated 13th January, 1940.
Lieutenant D. Curtis, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointments of Assistant Area Officer, No. 5 Area, and Adjutant, 2nd Field Ambulance, Wellington, on being seconded for duty with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Dated 20th January, 1940.
Lieutenant R. M. Paterson, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Assistant Artillery Instructor, Central Military District. Dated 26th January, 1940.
Lieutenant J. A. Pountney, N.Z. Staff Corps, is posted to the 2nd Heavy Artillery Group, N.Z.A. Dated 26th January, 1940.
Captain (temporary Major) J. W. Barry, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointments of Area Officer, No. 6 Area, and Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Wellington West Coast Regiment, Wanganui, and is posted to Central Military District Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 27th October, 1939.
Major T. Farr, D.S.O., M.C., Reserve of Officers, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery, is transferred to the Active List, and is appointed Camp Commandant, Waiouru Military Camp. Dated 29th December, 1939.
Major J. R. V. Sherston, D.S.O., M.C., N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes the appointment of General Staff Officer, 2nd Grade, Central Military District, Wellington, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 2nd Grade (Training and Staff Duties), Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 6th February, 1940.
Lieutenant C. R. Nathan, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland, and is appointed Instructor, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck. Dated 3rd February, 1940.
Lieutenant H. H. McDonald, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointments of Assistant Area Officer, No. 4 Area, and Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Waikato Regiment, Hamilton, on being seconded for duty with the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Dated 28th January, 1940.
Lieutenant D. P. Dumbleton, N.Z. Staff Corps, is posted for duty with the 1st Heavy Artillery Group, Devonport. Dated 29th January, 1940.
Lieutenant E. H. L. Maxwell, N.Z. Staff Corps, is posted for duty with the 1st Heavy Artillery Group, Devonport. Dated 29th January, 1940.
Lieutenant R. A. Bay, N.Z. Staff Corps, is posted for duty with the 23rd Heavy Battery, N.Z.A., Christchurch. Dated 29th January, 1940.
Major E. E. Elphick, E.D., M.R.C.V.S., N.Z. Veterinary Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, Central Military District, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 10. Dated 10th January, 1940.
