Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.
Wellington, 4th January, 1940.
THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Taieri County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

COUNTY OF TAIERI.
County Offices Loan, 1939, £2,000.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I declare the result of the poll to raise a special loan of £2,000, taken on the 20th day of December, 1939, was as follows:—
Votes.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 158
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 97
Informal .. .. .. .. .. 1
As the total number of valid votes in favour of the proposal exceeds three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, I declare the proposal carried.

Timaru Borough Council.—Cancellation of Unexercised Loan Authority.
In the matter of section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.
WHEREAS the Timaru Borough Council has been duly authorized to borrow by way of loan the sum of twelve thousand pounds (£12,000) by a loan known as the “Kerbing and Channelling Loan, 1937”:
And whereas in respect of the said sum of twelve thousand pounds (£12,000) there has been raised and borrowed the sum of seven thousand pounds (£7,000) and it has not been found necessary to borrow the whole of the amount so authorized:
And whereas the Timaru Borough Council has been duly notified in writing by me that it is intended to cancel the loan authority to the extent of the five thousand pounds (£5,000) not exercised:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon me by section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, as amended by section 46 of the Finance Act, 1931 (No. 4), and of all other powers me in this behalf enabling, I, Walter Nash, Minister of Finance, do hereby cancel the authority of the Timaru Borough Council to borrow under the loan authority hereinbefore referred to the sum of five thousand pounds (£5,000) being the amount in respect of which the said loan has not been exercised:
Provided always that this cancellation is without prejudice to the validity in all respects of the loan of seven thousand pounds (£7,000) already borrowed pursuant to the said loan authority.

Waimea County Council.—Cancellation of Unexercised Loan Authority.

And whereas in respect of the said sum of twelve thousand pounds (£12,000) there has been raised and borrowed the sum of six thousand pounds (£6,000) and it has not been found necessary to borrow the whole of the amount so authorized:
And whereas the Waimea County Council has been duly notified in writing by me that it is intended to cancel the loan authority to the extent of the six thousand pounds (£6,000) not exercised:

Warrant of Appointment of Customs Examining-place at Dunedin.
Customs Department,
Wellington, 22nd December, 1939.
I, WALTER NASH, Minister of Customs, in exercise of the powers vested in me for this purpose by the Customs Act, 1913, do by this warrant appoint at the port of Dunedin the wharf-shed marked “Pa,” situated at Rattray Street Wharf, to be a place for the examination by the Customs of goods subject to the control of the Customs.

Appointment of Customs Wharf at Wellington.

Wellington, 8th January, 1940.
I, WALTER NASH, Minister of Customs, in exercise of the powers vested in me for this purpose by the Customs Act, 1913, do by this warrant alter the limits of the Breastwork Wharf at the Port of Wellington, as described in Minister’s Warrant of Appointment dated 24th February, 1932, and gazetted on 3rd March, 1932, so that the said limits shall extend from the eastern side of the Taranaki Street wharf to the eastern side of the Pipitea Wharf, thence in a north-easterly direction for 1,430 ft., and then in a northerly direction for 3,681 ft.

Appointment of Customs Examining-place at Wellington.

Wellington, 8th January, 1940.
I, WALTER NASH, Minister of Customs, in exercise of the powers vested in me for this purpose by the Customs Act, 1913, do by this warrant appoint the under-mentioned wharf-shed to be a place for the examination by the Customs of goods subject to the control of the Customs at the Port of Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
SITUATION: Breastwork adjoining Aotea Quay.
Description: Reinforced-concrete wharf-shed numbered 49.

Declaring Areas to be Closely Populated Localities for the Purposes of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3.
IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, the Minister of Transport does hereby declare the areas described in the Schedule hereto to be closely populated localities for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein, shall be subject to the maximum speed-limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.
SCHEDULE.
SITUATED within Cook County—
All that area at Makaraka consisting of those portions of roads hereinafter described:—
(i) Gisborne–Wairoa via Morere Main Highway No. 15, commencing at a point 5 chains measured along the said main highway in an easterly direction from its junction with the Gisborne–Opotiki via Motu Main Highway, proceeding thence in a westerly and south-westerly direction and terminating at a point 24 chains measured along the said main highway in a south-westerly direction from the said junction.
(ii) Gisborne–Opotiki via Motu Main Highway No. 15, commencing at the junction of the said main highway with the Gisborne–Wairoa via Morere Main Highway and terminating at a point 6 chains measured along the said main highway in a north-westerly direction from the said junction.
