Setting apart Native Land as a Native Reservation
GALWAY, Governor-General.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this 28th day
of June, 1939.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCE THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section five of the Native Purposes Act,
1937, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council,
doeth hereby set apart and reserve the Native freehold land
described in the Schedule hereto as a Native reservation
for the common use of the Ngatirahiri Tribe as a meeting-
place.
SCHEDULE.
All that parcel of land containing 8 acres, more or less,
being the whole of Ngatirahiri 6c Block, situated in Block
VI, Waitara Survey District.

Appointment of Sheep-farming Industry Commission.
GALWAY, Governor-General.
TO all to whom these presents shall come, and to the
Honourable Sir Francis Vernon Frazer, Deputy Chair-
man of the Executive Commission of Agriculture, Wellington;
Hubert Maxwell Christie, Esquire, Sheep-farmer, Waipawa;
Arthur Cook, Esquire, General Secretary of the New Zealand
Workers' Union, Wellington; Dickson Jardine, Esquire,
Sheep-farmer, Kawarau Falls, Queenstown; and Robert
Alexander Rodger, Esquire, Retired Public Servant,
Wellington: Greeting.
Whereas it is reported that a serious economic position has
arisen detrimentally affecting the sheep-farming industry in
New Zealand and the welfare of the persons employed in
such industry: And whereas by the Commissions of Inquiry
Act, 1908, authority is conferred upon the Governor-General
in Council to appoint any person or persons to be a Commission
to inquire into and report upon any question arising out of
the working of any existing law: And whereas it is deemed
advisable to appoint such a Commission in relation to the
sheep-farming industry with authority to inquire into and
report upon certain questions arising out of the working of
the existing laws affecting that industry and regarding the
necessity or expediency of making further provision in the
premises:
Now, therefore, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway,
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in
pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me as
aforesaid by the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and of all
other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, and
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said Dominion, do hereby constitute and appoint
you the said
The Hon. Sir Francis Vernon Frazer,
Hubert Maxwell Christie,
Arthur Cook,
Dickson Jardine, and
Robert Alexander Rodger,
to be a Commission to inquire into and report upon the
working of the existing laws affecting the sheep-farming
industry in New Zealand, and upon all such matters incidental
or relevant thereto, as you may think proper, with a view to
the formulation of such measures in relation to the said
industry as will best promote the interests of the persons
engaged therein and the general economic welfare of New
Zealand; and in particular, but without limiting the generality
of the foregoing authority, to inquire into and report upon the
following matters, namely:-
I. The present condition of the said industry, with special
reference to the following matters:-
(1) The tenure of land.
(2) The price of land.
(3) The deterioration of all types of land, whether by
erosion of soil, second-growth of trees or plants,
spread of noxious weeds, depletion, or any other
causes.

(4) The efficiency of management of land and stock.
(5) The availability, efficiency, and utilization of labour
in the industry.
(6) The weight and incidence of general taxes and local
rates in their bearing on the industry.
(7) The methods of, and facilities for, acquiring live-stock
and plant and materials.
(8) The financial assistance available to the industry for
the acquisition and improvement of land, for the
acquisition of live-stock, plant, and materials, and
for the general carrying out of the industry; and
the administration and organization of lending
institutions.
(9) Any other matter deemed by you to be included in or
relevant to the subject of your inquiry.
II. The steps deemed by you to be practicable and desirable
to meet such detrimental conditions as you may find to exist
in the industry in respect of the several matters aforesaid,
whether by way of adjustment, reorganization, or otherwise,
and any other measures you deem necessary or expedient
to improve the condition of the sheep-farming industry and
to promote the welfare of the persons engaged therein.
And with the like advice and consent I do further appoint
you
The Hon. Sir Francis Vernon Frazer
to be Chairman of the said Commission.
And for the better enabling you the said Commission to
carry these presents into effect, you are hereby authorized
and empowered to make and conduct any inquiry under these
presents at such places as you may deem advisable and at
such times as you may deem expedient, and with power to
adjourn from time to time and from place to place as you
think fit, and to call before you and examine on oath or
otherwise, as may be allowed by law, and either publicly or in
private, such person or persons as you think capable of affording information in the premises; and you are also empowered
to call for and examine all such books and records as you
deem likely to afford you the fullest information on the
subject-matter of the inquiry hereby directed to be made and
to inquire of and concerning the premises by all lawful means
whatsoever:
And using all diligence you are required to submit a report
to me under your hands and seals not later than the thirtieth
day of September, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-nine, of your opinion as to the aforesaid matters:
And you are hereby strictly charged and directed that you
shall not at any time publish or disclose, save to me in
pursuance of these presents or by my direction, the contents
or purport of any report so made or to be made by you.
And it is hereby declared that these presents shall continue
in full force and virtue although the inquiry is not regularly
continued from time to time or from place to place by
adjournment.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued
under the Seal of the said Dominion this 5th day of
July, 1939

Appointment of Officer for the Purposes of the Sale of Food
and Drugs Act, 1908.
GALWAY, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred on me by section two of the Sale of Food
and Drugs Act, 1908, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount
Galway, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand,
do hereby appoint
Constable James Alwin du Temple
to be an officer for the purposes of the Sale of Food and Drugs
Act, 1908.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, this 29th day of June, 1939.
