Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.
Army Department,
Wellington, 16th March, 1939.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:-
STAFF.
Major G. Dittmer, M.B.E., M.C., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Commandant, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck, and is appointed Area Staff Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 13th February, 1939.
Captain W. Murphy, M.C., N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointments of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own), and Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland, and is appointed Commandant, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck. Dated 18th February, 1939.
Captain K. J. Walker, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry and retains the appointment of Adjutant, 3rd Composite Mounted Rifles Regiment. Dated 8th February, 1939.
Lieutenant N. B. Cowper, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck, and is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own), and Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 17th February, 1939.
Lieutenant R. B. Dawson, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, in addition to his present appointment. Dated 8th February, 1939.
Lieutenant M. T. S. Dew, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, 1st Field Ambulance, in addition to his present appointment. Dated 24th January, 1939.
Lieutenant I. A. Murray, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck, in addition to his present appointment. Dated 17th February, 1939.
N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.
The undermentioned Lieutenants, Northern Depot, to be Captains. Dated 25th August, 1938:

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY'S OWN).
Lieutenant E. K. Tomlinson, from the Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment, to be Lieutenant, and is posted to the 1st Battalion, with seniority from 1st November, 1936, next below Lieutenant J. R. Davies. Dated 2nd March, 1939.
THE WAIKATO REGIMENT.
Major H. D. Tait, 1st Cadet Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 4. Dated 1st March, 1939.
Captain A. P. Nelson, 1st Cadet Battalion, to be Major. Dated 1st March, 1939.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants:-
C. W. Smith, 1st Cadet Battalion. Dated 23rd September, 1937.
E. J. R. Tong, seconded 1st Composite Battalion. Dated 1st October, 1938.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) H. W. Sayers, 1st Cadet Battalion, is confirmed.
THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
Lieutenant E. W. A. Espiner, 6th Cadet Battalion, to be Captain. Dated 1st October, 1938.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants, 2nd Cadet Battalion, to be Lieutenants:-
A. J. Gainsford. Dated 9th February, 1938.
H. M. Sweney. Dated 27th August, 1938.
John Kemphorne Collins (late 2nd Lieutenant, the Canterbury Regiment) to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority from 4th December, 1936, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 22nd February, 1939.
2nd Lieutenant (on probation) R. S. Jones, from the Southland Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation), with seniority from 23rd June, 1937, and is posted to the 2nd Cadet Battalion. Dated 27th February, 1939.
THE NELSON, MARLBOROUGH, AND WEST COAST REGIMENT.
Lieutenant E. K. Tomlinson ceases to be seconded to the 3rd Composite Battalion and is transferred to the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own). Dated 2nd March, 1939.
THE SOUTHLAND REGIMENT.
2nd Lieutenant T. G. Holmes, 1st Cadet Battalion, to be Lieutenant. Dated 1st March, 1939.
2nd Lieutenant (on probation) R. S. Jones, 1st Cadet Battalion, is transferred to the Canterbury Regiment. Dated 27th February, 1939.
Clive Bateman Sage to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) and is posted to the 1st Cadet Battalion. Dated 11th February, 1939.
N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.
Major T. S. Norris, M.B., ceases to be attached to the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Central Military District. Dated 27th February, 1939.
Captain R. S. J. Fitzgerald, M.B., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Southern Military District. Dated 27th February, 1939.
Lieutenant W. A. Priest, M.B., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Southern Military District. Dated 27th February, 1939.
Lieutenant E. B. Watson, M.B., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Central Military District. Dated 28th February, 1939.
Edward George Sayers, M.B., Ch.B., M.R.C.P., Lond., F.R.A.C.P., Eng., D.T.M. and H., Eng., to be Lieutenant (Northern Military District, unattached). Dated 22nd February, 1939.
N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.
The Reverend F. C. Lawrence, Chaplain, 3rd Class (Church of England), resigns his commission. Dated 2nd March, 1939.
A. H. Charker, E.D., Chaplain, 3rd Class (Salvation Army) is posted to the Retired List with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 2nd March, 1939.
N.Z. VETERINARY CORPS.
Lieutenant W. Peirson, M.R.C.V.S., B.Sc., attached Otago Mounted Rifles, to be Captain. Dated 24th October, 1938.
