Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Resignations of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.
Army Department,
Wellington, 6th December, 1939.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—
STAFF.
Major (local Lieutenant-Colonel) F. N. Nurse, Australian Staff Corps, on return to Australia, relinquishes the local rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and the appointment of District Artillery Officer, Northern Military District. Dated 25th November, 1939.
Major S. C. V. W. Sugden, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment, Christchurch, and is appointed Camp Commandant, Waiouru Military Camp. Dated 15th November, 1939.
Captain (temporary Major) C. Shuttleworth, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes his present appointments and is appointed Area Staff Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland. Dated 14th November, 1939.
Lieutenant T. P. Laffey, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Mobilization Camp Ngaruawahia, and is appointed Adjutant, Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 10th November, 1939.
Lieutenant W. H. Behagne, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, 1st Composite Company, N.Z. Army Service Corps, in addition to his present appointments. Dated 11th November, 1939.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster T. J. Cronin, N.Z. Permanent Staff, relinquishes his present appointment and is appointed Adjutant and Quartermaster, Mobilization Camp, Ngaruawahia. Dated 11th November, 1939.
Lieutenant L. W. Thornton, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 2nd Heavy Artillery Group, and is seconded for duty with the Special Force. Dated 5th November, 1939.
Lieutenant L. N. McKay, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, 2nd Artillery Brigade Group, and is seconded for duty with the Special Force. Dated 14th November, 1939.
Lieutenant R. de la Cour, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Adjutant, 2nd Heavy Artillery Group, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Heavy Artillery Group. Dated 6th November, 1939.
Lieutenant P. G. Monk, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Area Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington. Dated 18th January, 1939.
Lieutenant P. G. Monk, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own), in addition to his present appointments. Dated 22nd September, 1939.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster H. C. F. Petersen, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes the appointment of Station Adjutant, Fort Dorset, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Artillery Brigade Group, Fort Dorset. Dated 15th November, 1939.
Lieutenant D. Curtis, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Field Ambulance, in addition to his present appointments. Dated 22nd September, 1939.
Captain L. R. Neilson, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 6 Area, in addition to his appointment as Adjutant, The Manawatu Mounted Rifles, Palmerston North. Dated 26th September, 1939.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster W. F. Sellen, N.Z. Permanent Staff, is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 5 Area, Wellington. Dated 1st September, 1939.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. W. McMurray, N.Z. Permanent Staff, is appointed Adjutant, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck. Dated 16th October, 1939.
Lieutenant I. A. Murray, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Adjutant, Northern Military District School of Instruction, and retains the appointment of Instructor, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck. Dated 16th October, 1939.
Lieutenant I. A. Murray, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Instructor, Northern Military District School of Instruction, Narrow Neck, and is seconded for duty with the Special Force. Dated 3rd November, 1939.
COMMANDS.
Captain G. L. Agar, B.Sc., A.M.I.E.E., N.Z. Corps of Signals, relinquishes command of the Central District Signal Company on being seconded for duty with the Special Force. Dated 27th September, 1939.
Lieutenant J. C. McIntosh, M.Sc., N.Z. Corps of Signals, is appointed to command the Central District Signal Company temporarily. Dated 28th September, 1939.
N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
The undermentioned officers are seconded for duty with the Special Force as from the dates mentioned against their names:—
Captain R. H. Bell. 19th September, 1939.
Lieutenant W. A. Graham-Kerr. 26th September, 1939.
Lieutenant A. W. Brown, M.C., D.C.M. 22nd September, 1939.
Lieutenant T. P. Laffey is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 21st November, 1939.
N.Z. PERMANENT STAFF.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. S. King is seconded for duty with the Special Force. Dated 25th September, 1939.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Lieutenant-Colonel D. G. S. Urmson, O.B.E. (late Indian Army) to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and is appointed General Staff Officer, 2nd Grade (Operations), Army Headquarters, Wellington, with the pay and allowances of a Major. Dated 18th November, 1939.
Captain E. Caldwell relinquishes his appointment in the N.Z. Temporary Staff on being seconded for duty with the Special Force. Dated 6th November, 1939.
Captain W. Fergie, Reserve of Officers, The Canterbury Regiment, to be Captain, and is appointed Adjutant, 1st Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment. Dated 13th November, 1939.
Captain D. C. W. Cossgrove relinquishes the appointment of Officer-in-Charge, Camp Records, Burnham, and is attached to Camp Headquarters, Burnham. Dated 30th September, 1939.
Captain D. C. W. Cossgrove ceases to be attached to Camp Headquarters, Burnham, and is appointed Officer-in-Charge Sick and Wounded Records, Southern Military District, Christchurch. Dated 13th November, 1939.
Lieutenant D. H. Hopkirk, Reserve of Officers, The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own), to be Lieutenant, and is appointed to the Instructional Staff, Burnham Military Camp. Dated 8th November, 1939.
Captain C. E. Howden, M.R.C.S., Eng., L.R.C.P., Lond., Retired List, to be Captain, is granted the temporary rank of Major, and is appointed Senior Medical Officer, Mobilization Camp, Ngaruawahia. Dated 9th November, 1939.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 137, of the 9th November, 1939, relative to the appointment of Lieutenant J. F. Green, for the words “to be Lieutenant (acting Captain)” substitute “to be Captain.”
Lieutenant F. J. Eggleton, Reserve of Officers, The Taranaki Regiment, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 8 Area, New Plymouth. Dated 24th October, 1939.
2nd Lieutenant A. C. Cooke, M.M., Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Assistant Area Officer, No. 7 Area, Gisborne. Dated 13th November, 1939.
