THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
Alister William Roy McGregor
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Rakaunui, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
Leonard Owen Morgan
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Wai-iti, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
Charles William Constable Metge
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Te Hapua, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
William Ferguson
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Maungatapu, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
Percival Roy Kennedy
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Parikino, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
Sydney Marshall Keith
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Waimarama, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
Erle Greenaway Tyler
to be Clerk of the Magistrates’ Court at Rawene for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, and Maintenance Officer at the Magistrates’ Court at Rawene for the purposes of the Destitute Persons Amendment Act, 1926, as from the 1st day of March, 1939.
Philip John Lamason
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, and the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, as from the 19th day of December, 1938.
Robert Gray Buchan
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, and the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, as from the 4th day of January, 1939.
Lionel Hector Wightman
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, and the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, as from the 1st day of February, 1939.
Constable Clifford George
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Matainui for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, and Maintenance Officer at the Magistrates’ Court, Matainui, for the purposes of the Destitute Persons Amendment Act, 1926, as from the 14th day of February, 1939.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Rangitikei County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.
Bridges Reconstruction Loan, 1938, £11,000.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Rangitikei taken on the 22nd day of February, 1939, on the proposal of the Rangitikei County Council to borrow the sum of £11,000 for the purpose of reconstructing bridges throughout the Rangitikei County :—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was . . 279
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 178
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the borough of Woodville, taken on the 2nd day of March, 1939, on the proposal of the Woodville Borough Council to borrow the sum of two thousand five hundred pounds (£2,500) for street improvements, kerbing and channelling, and the borough’s share of the cost of Vogel Street improvements (State Highway) and the McLean Street North Main Highway :—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was . . 109
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 51

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, as to the Statutory Closing-day in the Town District of Mania.
WHEREAS the local authority of the Town District of Mania has failed to decide what working-day in the week shall be the statutory closing-day for shops in the said Town District :
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 18 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day for shops in the said town district on and from the 27th day of March, 1939.

Revoking a Warrant Declaring an Area to be a Closely Populated Locality and Declaring an Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes of Section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936.
IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf the Minister of Transport does hereby revoke the Warrant which declares a certain area within Wanganui County to be a closely populated locality, which is dated the 8th day of August, 1938, and which is published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 62 of the 18th day of August, 1938, at page 1878, and does hereby declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein, shall be subject to the maximum speed-limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.

SITUATED within Wanganui County—
All that area at Fordell consisting of the No. 2 Line commencing at a point 5 chains measured along the road in a westerly direction from its junction with Warregate Road and terminating at a point 3 chains measured along the road in an easterly direction from its junction with the exit road to the No. 2 Camp, a distance of approximately 1 mile 50 chains.
All that area at Fordell consisting of Warregate Road commencing at a point 5 chains measured along the road in a south-westerly direction from its junction with the No. 2 Line and terminating at the said junction.
All that area at Fordell consisting of Denlair Road commencing at a point 16 chains measured along the road in a north-easterly direction from its junction with the No. 2 Line and terminating at the said junction.
