Wellington, 17th November, 1938.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman,
Kaikoura County Council, is published in accordance
with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926.

KAIKOURA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Electric Light Improvement Loan, 1938, £3,500.

PURSUANT to section 13 (1) of the Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers
in the Peninsula Riding and the Beach Road Electric Light
Special Rating Area, taken on the 10th day of November,
1938, on the proposal of the above Council to borrow the
sum of three thousand five hundred pounds for the purpose
of purchasing additional generating plant, &c. :—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 41
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was Nil.
Informal votes .. .. .. .. .. Nil.

I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Horowhenua County Council, is published in accord-
ance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1926.

COUNTY OF HOROWHENUA.

PURSUANT to section thirteen of the Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of
the ratepayers of the Waimeha Township Water-supply
Special Rating Area in the County of Horowhenua, taken
on the 8th day of November, 1938, on the proposal of the
Horowhenua County Council to borrow the sum of £3,300
for the purpose of instituting a water-supply to the said
Waimeha Township Special Rating Area :—

The number of votes recorded against the proposal

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments.—
Prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Lyttelton of
certain Goods Comprised in the Trade of a Fruiterer.

WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all the fruiterers' shops within
the Borough of Lyttelton, has been forwarded to me desiring
that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a
fruiterer—namely, fresh and preserved fruit (other than jam)
and vegetables—be prohibited during such time as the said
shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1921-22 :

And whereas I am satisfied that the sale of the said goods
is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and
that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of
the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act,
I, William Lee Martin, acting for the Minister of Labour, do
hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of December,
1938, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall
be and is hereby prohibited as follows :—

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after
the hour of 6 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the
hour of 9 p.m. : Provided that on the working-day immedi-
ately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day
immediately preceding New Year's Day the sale of the said
goods is not prohibited.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments.—
Fixing the Closing-hours of Fruiterers' Shops within the
Borough of Lyttelton.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded
to me from the occupiers of fruiterers' shops within
the Borough of Lyttelton pursuant to section 32 of the Shops
and Offices Act, 1921-22 :

And whereas I am satisfied that the signatures to such
requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the
said shops within the said borough :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I,
William Lee Martin, acting for the Minister of Labour, do
hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of December,
1938, all the said shops within the said borough shall be
closed in the evenings of working-days as follows :—

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at
6 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays at 9 p.m. : Provided
that on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas
Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New
Year's Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour.

Excluding Streets and Roads from Limitation as to Speed
imposed by the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936,
Section 3.

IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment
Act, 1936, and of all other powers enabling him in
that behalf, the Minister of Transport does hereby revoke
that portion of the Warrant dated the 21st day of December,
1936, and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 92 of the
22nd day of December, 1936, at page 2511, and also that
portion of the Warrant dated the 6th day of October, 1937,
and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 70 of 14th day of
October, 1937, in so far as the said Warrants apply to the
streets and roads described in the First Schedule hereto,
and does hereby exclude the streets and roads described in
the Second Schedule hereto from the limitation as to speed
imposed by the said section.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

SITUATED within Huntly Borough—
Great South Road (all that portion from the northern
boundary of the Huntly Borough to the junction of
the Great South Road with Hakanoa Street, a distance
of approximately 1 1/4 miles; and all that portion from
its junction with Farrells Lane to the southern boundary
of Huntly Borough, a distance of approximately 1 1/4
miles).

Situated within Mercer Town District—
Great South Road (all that portion from the northern
boundary of Mercer Town District to a point opposite
the goods entrance to the Mercer Railway-station, a
distance of approximately 20 chains).

SECOND SCHEDULE.

SITUATED within Huntly Borough—
Great South Road (all that portion commencing at a
point 5 chains measured along the said road in a north-
easterly direction from its junction with Kimihia Road
and terminating at the northern boundary of Huntly
Borough as now constituted, a distance of approximately
1 1/4 miles; also all that portion commencing at a point
19 chains measured along the said road in a south-
westerly direction from its junction with High Street
and terminating at the southern boundary of Huntly
Borough as now constituted, a distance of approximately
75 chains).

Situated within Mercer Town District—
Great South Road (all that portion commencing at a point
opposite the locomotive water-tanks north of the Mercer
Railway-station, and terminating at the northern
boundary of Mercer Town District as now constituted,
a distance of approximately 15 chains).

Situated within Whakatane Borough—
Wainui Main Highway No. 413 (all that portion known
as Ohope Beach Road, commencing at a point 3 chains
measured along the said road in a south-easterly
direction from its junction with Clifton Road and
terminating at the eastern boundary of Whakatane
Borough as now constituted, a distance of approximately
50 chains).
