Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22.—Fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Men’s Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops within the Borough of Hastings.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) men’s hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Hastings, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of September, 1938, all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to closing at not later than the prescribed hour on the day observed as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions:— (1) On the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m., and (2) On the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.:
And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said borough, notice is hereby given that pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said borough in which smoking requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops.
The notice gazetted on the 15th December, 1932, fixing the closing-hours of (1) men’s hairdressers’ and (2) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Hastings shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Kaitaia Drainage Area.—Notice of making and levying General Rates.
I, FRANK LANGSTONE, Minister of Lands, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, do hereby make and levy on the unimproved value of all land within the Kaitaia Town District Subdivision of the Kaitaia Drainage Area constituted under the said Act a general rate described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land in the subdivision of the Kaitaia Drainage Area outside the Kaitaia Town District the general rates described in the Second Schedule hereto, such respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance-costs for the period from the 1st April, 1938, to the 31st March, 1939.
The said rates, together with the annually recurring special rates already made and levied, will be payable in one sum on the 30th August, 1938, to the Collector of Rates, at the Land Drainage Engineer’s Office, Room 45, 1st Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland, at which office the rate-book will be available for inspection. A copy of the rate-book will be available for inspection at the office of the Land Drainage Engineer at Kaitaia.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
TOWN SUBDIVISION.
On the unimproved value of all land within the Kaitaia Town District, one penny and thirteen-hundredths of a penny (1·13d.) in the pound.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
RURAL SUBDIVISION.
CLASS A.—On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, tenpence and three one-hundredths of a penny (10·03d.) in the pound.
CLASS B.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class B, threepence and fifty-one one-hundredths of a penny (3·51d.) in the pound.
CLASS C.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C, one penny and fifty one-hundredths of a penny (1·50d.) in the pound.

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and by the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officer, at the address set against his name, is hereby appointed transmitting and receiving officer for the purpose of dealing with all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under the said Act or the regulations aforesaid:—

No. 2529, New Zealand: Cape Campbell to Banks Peninsula. Large corrections, 8/4/1938. Off-shore soundings inserted between Motunau Island and Cape Campbell defining the 100 fathom line. Existing copies of the above chart are thereby cancelled.
Supplement No. 6 relating to the Pacific Islands Pilot, Volume 111, has been published and may be obtained at Mercantile Marine Offices at the main ports by persons who have purchased the volume in New Zealand.

Ponui Passage: Light re-established.
Previous notice: No. 31 of 1938, hereby cancelled.
Position: Lat., 36° 45′ S.; long., 175° 10′·9 E. (approx.).
Details: The light has been re-established in a new white wood and steel tower 24 ft. high standing on a pile platform. The following alterations have been made, elevation reduced to 21 ft., visibility to 9 miles.
