Members of the Dairy Factory Managers Registration Board appointed.—(Notice No. Ag. 5596.)

Pursuant to the powers conferred upon me by clause 6 (2) of the Dairy Factory Managers’ Regulations, 1934, I, William Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, hereby appoint

(i) On the recommendation of the New Zealand Dairy Board—

Andrew Lintou, Esquire,

being a Dairy Company Director;

(ii) On the recommendation of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association—

James McKercher McDonald, Esquire,

being a member of the said Association;

(iii) On the recommendation of the Massey Agricultural College Council—

Professor William Riddet,

being a member of the staff of Massey Agricultural College; and

(iv) George Maxwell Valentine, Esquire,

being a member of the staff of the Department of Agriculture, to be members of the Dairy Factory Managers’ Registration Board established under the said regulations.

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Helensville, as from the 12th day of August, 1938.

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Helensville, as from the 15th day of August, 1938.

Richard Albert Lester,

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Porangahau, as from the 17th day of August, 1938.

William Murray Fraser,

to be Registrar at Hokitika of the Supreme Court of New Zealand for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908; Clerk of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928; Clerk of the Warden’s Court; Receiver of Gold Revenue and Mining Registrar at Hokitika, Ross, and Kumara for the Mining District of Westland constituted under the Mining Act, 1926; Official Assignee at Hokitika for the Supreme Court District of Westland for the purposes of the Bankruptcy Act, 1908; Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the district of Westland; and Local Patent Officer at Hokitika for the purposes of section 115 of the Patents, Designs, and Trade-marks Act, 1921-22, as from the 9th day of August, 1938.

Duncan Cecil Ernest Webster,

to be Registrar of Marriages for the District of Masterton under the Marriage Act, 1908; Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Masterton under the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1924; and Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Masterton under the Maori Births and Deaths’ Registration Regulations dated 4th February, 1935, as from midday of the 3rd day of August, 1938.

to be Returning Officer for the Dunedin West Electoral District for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Dunedin Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, as from the 18th day of August, 1938.

Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22.—Fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers’ and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops within the Borough of Wairoa.

Whereas a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Wairoa, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22;

And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of September, 1938, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to closing at not later than the prescribed hour on the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:—(1) On the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, and on the working-day immediately preceding Anniversary Day for the Wellington Province, there shall be no fixed closing-hour: (2) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this notice observe, pursuant to section 14 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, Saturday as the closing-day, then, and in such case, the closing-hour on Friday shall be 9 p.m.

The notice gazetted on the 3rd July, 1930, fixing the closing hours of (1) hairdressers’ and (2) tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Wairoa shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22.—Prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Wairoa of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Tobacconist.

Whereas a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Wairoa, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist—namely, cigarettes, tobacco, and smoking requisites—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22;

And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of September, 1938, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m., with the following exception:—(1) On the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day, and on the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day, and on the working-day immediately preceding Anniversary Day for the Wellington Province, the sale of the said goods is not prohibited.

The notice gazetted on the 3rd July, 1930, prohibiting the sale within the Borough of Wairoa of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
