Appointments in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioners have made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
John George Mulholland,
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Whakatane, as from the 2nd day of May, 1938.
William John Cummins,
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Cambridge, as from the 26th day of May, 1938.
Thomas McCullock Brooks,
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Wallace for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Wallace Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, as from the 24th day of May, 1938.
Frederick Stanley Collier,
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Manawatu for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Manawatu Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, as from the 24th day of May, 1938.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, North Canterbury Electric-power Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

NORTH CANTERBURY ELECTRIC-POWER BOARD.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of that portion of the Cheviot County within the Board’s district, taken on the 31st day of May, 1938, on the proposal of the North Canterbury Electric-power Board to borrow the sum of twenty-six thousand five hundred pounds (£26,500) for the purpose of constructing new works for supply of electric power to Cheviot County, and the electrical reticulation of those parts of the Cheviot County included in the Board’s district, including the purchase of general equipment, the purchase of land and/or buildings, the construction of buildings, and general expenses incidental to such supply.
Votes.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 154
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 10
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give public notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Tauranga taken on the 1st June, 1938, on the proposals of the Tauranga Borough Council to borrow the undermentioned loans for waterworks, the number of votes cast was as follows:—

Appointing Saturday as the Statutory Closing-day in the Borough of Waitara.
WHEREAS a poll to determine the statutory closing-day in the Borough of Waitara was duly taken under the authority of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, on the 11th day of May, 1938:
And whereas the Town Clerk of the Borough of Waitara has notified me that the majority of the votes given at such poll were in favour of the appointment of Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the Borough of Waitara:
Now, therefore, I, Frederick Jones, acting for the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 20 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, do hereby appoint Saturday as the statutory closing-day in the Borough of Waitara on and from the 13th day of June, 1938.

Special Order made by the Raglan County Council dissolving the Raglan Town Board and merging the Town District of Raglan in the County of Raglan.

THE following special order made by the Raglan County Council is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1920.

SPECIAL ORDER.
THE Council resolved by special order under authority of section 27 of the Counties Act, 1920, that having received a petition signed by a majority of the ratepayers of the Raglan Town District possessing in the aggregate at least one-half of the rateable property therein, such petition requesting the abolition of the Raglan Town District, and being satisfied that such petition has been published in the said district at least one month before presentation, hereby resolves—
(a) That the Raglan Town District be and is hereby dissolved.
(b) That the said district do accordingly merge in the county.
I hereby certify that the above special order is a true copy of a special order passed at a special meeting of the Raglan County Council held on the 13th day of April, 1938, and confirmed at a meeting of the council held on the 25th day of May, 1938.

Waihi Swamp Drainage Area—Penalty on Overdue Rates.
Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 1st June, 1938.
IN pursuance of section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, and the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, the ratepayers within the Waihi Rating Area are hereby notified that 10 per cent. additional will be added to all rates for the year ended 31st March, 1938, unpaid on 30th June, 1938.
Rates may be paid at any money-order office on presentation of the original demand, or to the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, Private Bag, Auckland, C.1.
