Ratings who obtain 80 per cent. or more marks in this examination will have the date of advancement accelerated by three months. A Sick-berth Attendant Probationer who fails to pass the examination at the conclusion of forty-five weeks’ training, or whose conduct at any time while under training is unsatisfactory, is to be reported to the Naval Board in order that the question of his retention in the Service may be considered.” | ||

The papers will be prepared and marked by a Board of Examiners detailed by the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Station, but the papers set for the same examination in the Royal Navy will be used as far as possible, any necessary alterations being made to suit local conditions. All papers will be sent out finally from Navy Office:— |
“ (1) Ledger, ships’ office work, pay accounts, and relevant orders and instructions—300 marks;
“ (2) Captain’s Secretary’s work, Admiralty Instructions—150 marks;
“ (3) Arithmetic—100 marks;
“ (4) Typewriting—50 marks;
“ Optional shorthand: Reproduction in shorthand and transcription into longhand, the use of typewriter being optional, of two passages, of about four minutes’ duration each, dictated one at a speed of 60 and the other at 70 words a minute—50 marks.
“ In subjects (1) and (2) the memorization of rates of pay and allowances and of similar figures is unnecessary. 360 marks and not less than 50 per cent. in any one obligatory subject required to pass.” |
