Modifications and Additions, &c.—continued.

No. Rating. Heading (Col. 4 of K.R., App. XVII, Part I). Substitute or add to Instructions which appear in King’s Regulations, Appendix XVII, Part I.
115 Writer—continued. (B) Substitute “Writer Probationers, after completion of disciplinary training, will undergo a course of instruction and practical work in the Training Establishment and will be examined on completion of six months’ service. Ratings who fail to pass the examination at the end of this period are to be reported to the Naval Board in order that the question of their retention in the Service may be considered.”
(D) Substitute “The Accountant Officer of the Training Establishment.”
(F) Substitute “Will be available for draft to seagoing service as part complement on being advanced to Writer.”
115A Writer Probationer.. (B) Substitute “18–23. Examination held at Training Establishment.”
118 Supply Petty Officer (C) Substitute “Held third Monday in May and November. Names of candidates to reach Navy Office not later than three months before examination is due to be held. The papers will be prepared and marked by a Board of Examiners detailed by the Commodore Commanding New Zealand Station, but the papers set for the same examination in the Royal Navy will be used as far as possible, any necessary alterations being made to suit local conditions. All papers will be sent out finally from Navy Office:—

“ (1) Mathematics.—Knowledge of weights and measures and of arithmetic, including vulgar fractions and decimals—100 marks.
“ (2) Victualling.—Provision, clothing, implement, messtrap, &c., accounts, sources of supply, preparation of demands, receipt, custody, storage, and issue of provisions, clothing, soap, tobacco, implements, messtraps, &c. Messing arrangements, general messing and standard ration, scales and allowances, &c. Organization of Department. General knowledge of Admiralty and New Zealand Division instructions regarding the Victualling Department—400 marks.
“ (3) Naval Stores (Central Storekeeping).—Naval Store Accounts and all subsidiary documents, demands, receipt, custody, stowage, preservation, issue, survey, &c., of Naval Stores. Organization of Department. General knowledge of Admiralty and New Zealand Division instructions affecting the Central Store Department. General knowledge of Naval Stores of various descriptions and their uses—400 marks.
“ (4) Typewriting—50 marks.
“ Maximum marks, 950. 570 marks and not less than 50 per cent. in any one subject required to pass.” |

They will be lent to a cruiser for a short period of central store instruction, but the instruction in other subjects will be given in the Training Establishment. They will be examined on conclusion of six months’ service. Ratings who fail to pass the examination at the end of this period are to be reported to the Naval Board in order that the question of their retention in the Service may be considered.” |

NOTE.—The entry of Old System Assistant Cooks in the New Zealand Division ceased as from 31st December, 1936.
