Modifications and Additions, &c.—continued.

No. Rating. Heading (Col. 4 of K.R., App. XVII, Part I). Substitute or add to Instructions which appear in King's Regulations, Appendix XVII, Part I.
78 Joiner, 5th Class .. (A) Substitute “Captain of Training Establishment.”
(B) Substitute “Between nineteen and twenty-five years. Candidates must be able-bodied men and must produce good credentials of character, industry, sobriety, and ability, and evidence of at least five years’ practical experience as a Joiner.”
(D) Substitute—“Officers of the Naval Base, Devonport, assisted by a Commissioned or Warrant Shipwright.”
(F) Substitute “Successful candidates are to be drafted to seagoing ships on completion of disciplinary training.” “If a Joiner, 5th Class, is not considered worthy of advancement on attaining one year’s seniority, the circumstances are to be submitted with a full report to the Naval Board for instructions.”
84 Acting Blacksmith, 4th Class (A) Substitute “Captain. (NOTE.—All Blacksmiths will be entered in the rating of Blacksmith, 5th Class.)”
(B) Substitute “Blacksmiths, 5th Class, on completing one year in that rating, may be advanced to Acting Blacksmith, 4th Class, but men who reach the age of twenty-one years before completing one year’s service may, if recommended by their Commanding Officer, be rated Acting Blacksmith, 4th Class, at any time between the dates of completion of six and twelve months’ service. (See also No. 85 (F).)”

(B) Substitute “Plumbers, 5th Class, on completing one year in that rating, may be advanced to Acting Plumber, 4th Class, but men who reach the age of twenty-one years before completing one year’s service may, if recommended as fit by their Commanding Officer, be rated Acting Plumber, 4th Class, at any time between the dates of completion of six and twelve months’ service. (See also No. 92 (F).)”

(B) Substitute “Painters, 5th Class, on completing one year in that rating, may be advanced to Acting Painter, 4th Class, but men who reach the age of twenty-one years before completing one year’s service may, if recommended as fit by their Commanding Officer, be rated Acting Painter, 4th Class, at any time between the dates of completion of six and twelve months’ service. (See also No. 98 (F).)”
