(NOTE.—The above does not apply to re-employed retired officers or to
pensioner ratings serving on non-continuous service engagements. In
these cases no pensions contributions are payable to the Admiralty, and the
New Zealand Government are liable for compensation in respect of disable-
ment or death attributable to the conditions of service under the New Zealand
Government, but in no case shall the pension, gratuity, or allowance awarded
and paid to such officer or man, or to his widow and/or children, be less than
would be payable were such officer or man serving in the Royal Navy proper
at the time of the occurrence calling for the award of a pension, gratuity, or
allowance.)

APPENDIX IX.
Modifications and Additions to King's Regulations, Appendix XVII, Part I,
Applicable to New Zealand Ratings (see Article 60).
NOTE.—The Naval Board will be the authority for the advancement of New Zealand ratings to
leading rate and above, the advancement rosters being maintained at Navy Office. The Captain will,
however, continue to be the authority for advancement to higher rating in the case of the ratings
mentioned in King's Regulations, Article 410, except that the date applicable to writer ratings in the
New Zealand Division shall be 1st May, 1928, instead of 5th October, 1925.
The clauses relating to special and non-continuous service ratings will not be applicable in the
New Zealand Division.

After selection, they will undergo the preliminary V/S course of twelve weeks and will be rated probationary Signal Boy on passing the preliminary V/S course. (NOTE.—Boys, 2nd Class, selected to undergo the preliminary V/S course will be eligible for advancement to Boy, 1st Class, provisionally after twenty weeks under training and may be confirmed Boy, 1st Class, four weeks later, if recommended. Their advancement should be ante-dated to date of provisional advancement.)
