and the area comprises hilly to broken land of which
approximately 200 acres is in medium pasture, 238 acres in
fern and scrub, and the balance in standing bush. Ragwort
is in evidence.
- After payment of the prescribed deposit, no rent and
no interest on the mortgages securing the improvement
loading will be charged for a period of three years,
provided the sum of £75 is expended annually over this
period in effecting permanent improvements, in addition
to the ordinary improvements required under the Land
Act, 1924.

Land in Taranaki Land District for Selection on Optional
Tenures.
District Lands and Survey Office,
New Plymouth, 23rd February, 1938.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section
is open for selection on optional tenures under the
Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the
District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, up to
4 o'clock p.m. on Monday, 21st March, 1938.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at
the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on
Wednesday, 23rd March, 1938, at 10.30 o'clock a.m., but
if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by
any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown
Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when
examined documentary evidence of their financial position,
such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from
managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms,
or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial
assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should
state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply
guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of
the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant
is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a
deposit comprising the first half-year's rent, broken-period
rent, lease and mortgage fees, deposit in reduction of improvement loading, and proportionate part of insurance on buildings.
SCHEDULE.
TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Ohura County.—Waro Survey District.
SECTION 7, Block VII : Area, 434 acres. Capital value, £220.
Deposit on deferred payments, £15; half-yearly instalment
on deferred payments, £6 13s. 3d. Renewable lease : Half-
yearly rent, £4 8s.
Weighted with £520 for improvements, comprising four-
roomed dwelling, shed, 140 chains fencing, and 123 acres
felled and grassed. This sum is payable in cash, or, after
payment of a deposit of £70, £150 to be secured on first
mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for a term of
ten years with interest at the rate ruling as at date of selection
and £300 to be secured on second private mortgage for a
term of ten years with interest thereon at 5 per cent. per
annum. The cost of preparing the mortgage to the State
Advances Corporation, £2 15s., must be paid immediately
an application is declared successful.
A dairying and grazing farm situated on the Tongaporutu
Road, half a mile from Waitaanga Post-office, one mile from
Waitaanga School, eleven miles from Ohura Railway-station,
and eleven miles and a half from Ohura Saleyards. Access
is by metalled road from Ohura. The soil is light loam on
clay, papa, and sandstone formation; watered by springs
and streams. The land ranges from flat easy hills to fairly
steep and broken, and about 123 acres are in fair pasture,
50 acres in worn-out pasture, and the balance in natural
state. Ragwort is in evidence.

Land in Canterbury Land District for Lease by Public Auction.
District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands
will be offered for lease by public auction at the District
Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, at 2.30 o'clock p.m.
on Monday, 28th March, 1938, under the provisions of the
Hanmer Crown Leases Act, 1928.
SCHEDULE.
CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—TOWN LAND.
Amuri County.—Hanmer Township.
(Subdivisions of part Reserve 3941.)
Lots 18 and 19, Block II: Area, 2 roods. Upset annual
rent, £5.
Lots 34, 35, and 36, Block II : Area, 3 roods. Upset
annual rent, £5.
Lot 1E, Block I : Area, 29 perches. Upset annual rent,
£3 15s.
The sections being offered comprise good building-sites in
the Township of Hanmer which is situated ninety-three miles
from Christchurch and is reached by regular daily train and
motor services. The town is well known for the sporting and
health facilities which it offers.
Sections 18, 19, and 34, 35, and 36 have frontages to Scarborough Terrace. These sections are more or less covered
with broom and blackberry.
Section 1E has a frontage to Jacks Pass Road, overlooks
the golf-links, and is distant about 18 chains from the Hanmer
Post-office. The land is flat to undulating.
Term of Lease: Twenty-one years with right of renewal
for further term with rentals based on fresh valuations under
the provisions of the Public Bodies' Leases Act, 1908.
A condition of the lease is that buildings to the value of
£250 must be erected on the section within twelve months of
the date of the lease.
Form of lease may be perused and full particulars obtained
at the office of the undersigned.

fencing.
Term of license: Twenty-one years.
