Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, Resignations, and
Retirements of Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

Department of Defence,
Wellington, 16th February, 1938.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General, by his Deputy, has
been pleased to approve of the following appointments,
promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers
of the New Zealand Military Forces :-

N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
Captain R. S. Judson, V.C., D.C.M., M.M., is posted to the
Retired List with permission to retain his rank and wear the
prescribed uniform. Dated 31st January, 1938.

REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Captain F. C. Rawle, 20th Light Battery, to be Major, and is
appointed to command the Battery. Dated 14th December,
1937.
The undermentioned Officers are transferred to the Reserve
of Officers, Class I (b) :-
Captain H. J. Edmonds, 13th Heavy Battery. Dated
1st December, 1937.
Captain C. A. N. Pilcher, 3rd Field Battery. Dated 14th
December, 1937.
Lieutenant J. G. V. Hudson, 21st Field Battery. Dated
27th January, 1938.
Lieutenant H. S. Wilson, 20th Light Battery, to be Captain.
Dated 1st September, 1937.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants :-
Dated 1st November, 1937
G. M. Shortt, 13th Heavy Battery.
Dated 2nd November, 1937
A. B. Chappell, 15th Heavy Battery.
J. Stevens-Jordan, 18th Anti-Aircraft Battery.

John Alexander Pountney to be 2nd Lieutenant and is posted
to the 2nd Medium Battery. Dated 1st September, 1937.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants, 1st Field Company,
to be Lieutenants. Dated 15th November, 1937 :-

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY'S OWN). The undermentioned Captains to be Majors :-
A. R. Munro, 1st Battalion. Dated 1st December, 1937.
P. A. S. Stein, 2nd Cadet Battalion. Dated 23rd December,
1937.
Lieutenant J. N. Haddock, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the
Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 1. Dated 29th
January, 1938.
2nd Lieutenant E. F. Dodson, 1st Cadet Battalion, resigns his
commission. Dated 12th January, 1938.

THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT.
Captain R. E. Murray, from the Reserve of Officers, to be
Captain, with seniority from 7th July, 1932, is posted to
the 1st Battalion, and is seconded to Army Headquarters,
Wellington, for duty as Publicity Officer. Dated 20th
January, 1938.

THE HAWKE'S BAY REGIMENT.
Eric George Hassell to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) and
is posted to the 3rd Cadet Battalion. Dated 23rd
December, 1937.

THE TARANAKI REGIMENT.
Arthur Howard Brooke-Taylor to be 2nd Lieutenant and is
posted to the Regimental Depot. Dated 23rd August,
1937.

THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
George Crowley Weston to be 2nd Lieutenant and is posted to
the 1st Battalion. Dated 26th August, 1937.

N.Z. ARMY SERVICE CORPS.
Sydney Allan Sampson to be 2nd Lieutenant and is posted to
the 1st Composite Company. Dated 9th March, 1937.

N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.
Captain M. S. Harris, M.B. (Attached Northern Depot, N.Z.
Corps of Signals), to be Major. Dated 16th September,
1937.
Lieutenant D. Y. Allan, M.B., Southern Military District
(unattached) is posted to Central Military District (un-
attached)
. Dated 11th January, 1938.

N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.
The Reverend I. L. Richards, Chaplain, 3rd Class (Church of
England), is transferred from Area 12 to Area 10. Dated
1st February, 1938.
The undermentioned Chaplains, 4th Class, to be Chaplains,
3rd Class :-
The Reverend J. W. McKenzie, M.M. (Presbyterian).
Dated 15th January, 1938.
The Reverend E. B. Moore (Church of England). Dated
17th January, 1938.

England) :-
The Reverend William Mandeno Smallfield, Area 6.
Dated 11th November, 1937.
The Reverend Ronald Alfred Noakes, Area 4. Dated 15th
January, 1938.

RESERVE OF OFFICERS.
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own).
Lieutenant A. D. Colley relinquishes his commission on
appointment to a commission in the British Army (Territorial Army). Dated 19th November, 1937.

The Wellington Regiment.
Lieutenant J. te H. Grace relinquishes his commission on
appointment to a commission in the Royal New Zealand Air Force (Territorial). Dated 1st February, 1938.

N.Z. Medical Corps.
Captain T. A. MacGibbon, M.D., F.R.C.S., Edin., is posted to
the Retired List with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and
with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed
uniform. Dated 27th January, 1938.
Captain J. P. Whetter, M.B., is posted to the Retired List
with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed
uniform. Dated 20th January, 1938.

Promotions in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Division).

in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand
Division) :-
Acting Lieutenant-Commander Frank Edward Taylor to
Acting Commander, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 8th
January, 1938.
Lieutenant James Andrew Smyth to Acting Lieutenant-
Commander, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 8th January, 1938.

Collector of Rates for the Poukawa Drainage District appointed.

Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 15th February, 1938.

NOTICE is hereby given that in terms of the Swamp Land Drainage Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder,
and the Rating Act, 1925, I have appointed--
Arthur Chitty Russell Anderson,
to be Collector of Rates for the Poukawa Drainage District constituted in accordance with the Swamp Land Drainage Act, 1915.
