Lieutenant-Colonel J. W. Hutchen, C.M.G., C.B.E., is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Colonel and with permission to wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 20th May, 1937.

Major A. L. Gray is posted to the Retired List with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 3rd June, 1937.

to be Registrar of Marriages and Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Balfour, as from the 7th day of June, 1937.

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Taihape, as from the 14th day of June, 1937.

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Whirinaki, as from the 1st day of June, 1937.

Waitaki County Council.—Cancellation of Unexercised Loan Authority.
In the matter of section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.
WHEREAS the Waitaki County Council has been duly authorized to borrow by way of loan the sum of ten thousand pounds (£10,000) for the purpose of carrying out highway construction work within the county, and the consent of the Governor-General in Council to the raising of the said loan was given by Order in Council made on the 3rd day of December, 1935 :
And whereas, in respect of the said sum of £10,000, there has been raised and borrowed for the purpose aforesaid the sum of six thousand pounds (£6,000), and it has not been found necessary to borrow the whole of the amount so authorized :
And whereas the Minister of Finance has duly notified the Waitaki County Council in writing of his intention to cancel the loan authority to the extent of four thousand pounds (£4,000) not exercised :
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon me by section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, as amended by section 46 of the Finance Act, 1931 (No. 4), and of all other powers me in this behalf enabling, I, Peter Fraser, Acting Minister of Finance, do hereby cancel the authority of the Waitaki County Council to borrow under the loan authority hereinbefore referred to the sum of four thousand pounds (£4,000) being the amount in respect of which the said loan authority has not been exercised : Provided always that this cancellation is without prejudice to the validity in all respects of the loan of six thousand pounds (£6,000) already borrowed pursuant to the said loan authority.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Manukau County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
Wairoa Riding Roads and Bridges Loan, 1937.—£12,500.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Wairoa Riding of the County of Manukau taken on the 10th day of June, 1937, on the proposal of the Manukau County Council to borrow the sum of £12,500 for the purpose of (a) constructing and renewing bridges and culverts in reinforced concrete, £5,250 ; (b) widening, re-grading, adjustments to culverts, base course reconstruction, and two-coat sealing of the Papakura–Clevedon Main Highway, including the widths outside the main highway limits in the Clevedon Township, £4,750 ; and (c) realigning, culverting, re-grading, and resurfacing North Road, £2,500 (all in the Wairoa Riding of the County of Manukau)—
Votes.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 321
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 39
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Drapers’, (2) Clothiers’, (3) Mercers’, and (4) Fancy-goods Dealers, Shops within the Borough of Masterton.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) draper, (2) clothier, (3) mercer, and (4) fancy-goods dealer within the Borough of Masterton pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Acting Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough :
Now, therefore; in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 12th day of July, 1937, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m. :
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 11th May, 1905, fixing closing-hours of drapers’, clothiers’, and grocers’ shops in the Borough of Masterton shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
