immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.; and (3) on New Year’s Day, 2nd January, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the King’s Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, the closing hour shall be 8 p.m.

And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said combined district.

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 5th day of October, 1936, all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Cambridge and Leamington shall be closed accordingly.

NOTES.—(1) Pursuant to section 21 (e) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, a chemist may keep his shop open (but only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances) between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the statutory closing-day.

(2) Pursuant to section 35 (4) of the same Act a chemist may supply medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently required on Sundays and on working-days outside the hours specified above, provided that the shop is opened for such purpose only and is closed immediately the sale is effected, and that the door of the shop is kept locked except for the admission and exit of the customer.

Classification of Roads in Malvern County.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Transport Department Act, 1929, and the Heavy Motor-vehicle Regulations, 1932, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Transport, do hereby approve of the Malvern County Council’s proposed classification of the roads described in the Schedule hereto and situated in the Malvern County.

ROADS classified in Class Three: Available for the use thereon of any heavy motor-vehicle (other than a multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle) which, with the load it is carrying, weighs not more than 6½ tons, or any multi-axled heavy motor-vehicle which, with the load it is carrying, weighs not more than 10 tons:—

Upper Riccarton–Arthurs Pass Main Highway No. 106 (all that portion within Malvern County).

Kaiapoi–Waddington via Rangiora and Bennetts Main Highway No. 112 (all that portion within Malvern County).

Darfield–Arundel Main Highway No. 138 (all that portion within Malvern County).

Yaldhurst–Sheffield Main Highway No. 194 (all that portion within Malvern County).

Coalgate–Hororata Main Highway No. 195 (all that portion within Malvern County).

Aylesbury–Lake Coleridge Main Highway No. 197 (all that portion within Malvern County).

Homebush–Waddington Main Highway No. 283.

Approval of Testing Officers under the Motor-drivers’ Regulations, 1931.

IN terms of Regulation 5 of the Motor-drivers’ Regulations, 1931, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Transport, do hereby approve until further notice of the persons named in Column 2 of the Schedule hereunder being Testing Officers under the said regulations for the local authorities specified in Column 1 of the said Schedule.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XVI, Kawakawa Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Kawakawa, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing within forty days from the first publication of this notice to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

THAT the Otorohanga County Council decide to assume responsibility for the administration of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, as from the 21st September, 1936.
