Appointments in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioners have made the following appointments in the Public Service :

David Davies,

to be Gaoler of the Greymouth Prison under section 5 of the Prisons Act, 1908, as from the 27th day of August, 1936.

Henry Robinson,

to be Gaoler of the Wanganui Prison under section 5 of the Prisons Act, 1908, as from the 1st day of September, 1936.

George William Brown,

to be Official Assignee for the Supreme Court District of Canterbury and Westland for the purposes of the Bankruptcy Act, 1908, as from the 4th day of September, 1936.

William Willis Hubbard,

to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, and the Dairy Industry Act, 1908, as from the 1st day of September, 1936.

Basil Keith Fairbrother,

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Wharekahika, as from the 29th day of August, 1936.

Henry William Robert Black,

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Te Araroa, as from the 14th day of August, 1936.

James Hope Robertson,

to be the Returning Officer for the Northern Maori Electorate for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, as from the 16th day of September, 1936.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to a resolution passed by the Board of Native Affairs on the 4th day of September, 1936, the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is subject to the provisions of section 522 of the Native Land Act, 1931, and is included in the Piopio Development Scheme.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Native Affairs, the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is no longer subject to the provisions of section 522 of the Native Land Act, 1931, and is excluded from the Heretaunga Development Scheme.

THE following land, situate in Heretaunga Survey District, in the Ikaroa Native Land Court District : Puninga 4A 1 Block : Area, 71 acres 1 rood 24 perches.

Constituting Mangapu Development Scheme.

PURSUANT to subsection (3) of section 522 of the Native Land Act, 1931, the Board of Native Affairs hereby gives notice of its intention to apply the provisions of the said subsection to the land described in the Schedule hereto, and accordingly no owner may, except with the consent of the Board, exercise any rights of ownership so as to interfere with the carrying-out of any works under the said subsection.

WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL.

PURSUANT to sections 12 and 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Tokomaru Harbour Rating Area, taken on the 24th day of August, 1936, on the proposal of the Waipu County Council (Tokomaru Harbour Board) to borrow the sum of £23,000 for the purposes of rebuilding the wharf and approaches thereto at Tokomaru Bay—

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 154
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 4
Informal Nil

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments, fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops within the Combined District of Cambridge and Leamington.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Combined District of Cambridge and Leamington, comprising the Borough of Cambridge and the Town District of Leamington, has been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops within the said combined district be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., on Fridays at 9 p.m., and on Sundays, except during the time from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the working-day immediately preceding Good Friday, and on the working-day immediately preceding Anniversary Day, Anzac Day, or the King’s Birthday, when any such day falls on a Friday, the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. ; (2) on the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day
