Lands in Taranaki Land District for Selection.
District Lands and Survey Office,
New Plymouth, 9th December, 1935.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 20th January, 1936.
The lands described in the First Schedule may, at the option of the applicants, be purchased for cash, or on deferred payments, or be selected on renewable lease. The lands described in the Second Schedule may be selected on renewable lease only.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on Wednesday, the 22nd January, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Waitomo County.—Mapara Survey District.
SECTION 11, Block VIII: Area, 291 acres. Capital value, £270. Deposit on deferred payments, £15: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £8 5s. 9d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £5 8s.
Weighted with £705 for improvements, comprising house, cottage, cow-byre and yards, about 400 chains fencing, 50 acres cleared and stumped, and 50 acres broken from natural state. This amount is payable in cash or by a deposit of £335, and the balance—£370—may be secured on first mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand for a term of thirty years with interest at the rate ruling as at date of selection.
Situated on the Kopaki and Mapara South Roads, five miles from Kopaki Post-office and Railway-station, and in the vicinity of the Aratoro School. Access is by metalled road. The property generally comprises about 50 acres in fair pasture, about 50 acres in worn-out pasture, and about 166 acres of bush land felled and grassed, but now badly reverted, and 25 acres in bush. The soil is light loam resting on clay and rhyolite formation. Ragwort is prevalent.

Ohura County.—Ohura Survey District.
Section 6, Block X; Area, 593 acres 2 roods 23 perches. Capital value, £750. Deposit on deferred payments, £30: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £23 8s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £15.
Loaded with £2,115 for improvements, comprising a five-roomed dwelling, wool-shed, two sets of yards, shed, fencing, felling and grassing. This sum is payable in cash or by a deposit of £100, leaving £400 on first mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand and £1,615 on second mortgage under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act.
A mixed-farming property situated on the Huia Road, six miles from Ohura Post-office, School, Railway-station, and Saleyards. Cream is collected at a distance of two miles and a half from the section. Access from Ohura is by unmetalled road for six miles. Soil is fair to light loam on clay and sandstone formation; watered by springs and streams. A fair proportion of the country is ploughable, the remainder being easy to steep hills with a little broken country. About 480 acres are in good pasture, 1 acre in orchard and garden, the remainder being in bush. Property is subdivided into five paddocks.
NOTE.—Possession will be given one month after date of Taranaki Land Board’s approval of an application. A clearing sale of the stock depasturing on the area will be arranged within that period.

Ohura County.—Ohura Survey District.
Section 6, Block XI: Area, 694 acres. Capital value, £695. Deposit on deferred payments, £35: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £21 9s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13 18s.
Loaded with £2,170 for improvements, comprising five-roomed dwelling, two sheds, two sets yards and dip, fencing, felling and grassing. This sum is payable in cash or by a deposit of £100, leaving £640 on first mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand and £1,430 on second mortgage under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act.
The property, which is suitable for mixed farming, is situated on the Kakahi Road, six miles from Roto Post-office and School, eight miles and a half from Tokirima Railway-station, and eight miles from Ohura Saleyards. Cream is collected to within half a mile of section. Access from Ohura is by unmetalled road. Soil is a light to fairly good loam on clay and sandstone; watered by springs and creeks. Approximately 100 acres are ploughable, the remainder being undulating to hilly and broken country. Some 595 acres are in good pasture, 90 acres in fair to rough feed, and 9 acres in shelter bush. Property is subdivided into eight paddocks.
NOTE.—Possession will be given one month after date of Taranaki Land Board’s approval of an application. A clearing sale of stock on the area will be arranged within that period.

THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Ohura County.—Ohura Survey District.
Section 6, Block IX: Area, 378 acres. Capital value, £370. Deposit on deferred payments, £15: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £11 10s. 9d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £7 8s.
Weighted with £875 for improvements, comprising dwelling, cow-byre, whare and outhouse, fencing, felling and grassing. This sum is payable in cash or by a deposit of £35, leaving £465 on first mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand and £375 on second mortgage under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act.
A sheep- and cattle-grazing property on which a small herd of dairy cows could be carried. Situated on the Ohura Road, three miles from Ohura Post-office, School, and Railway-station. Access is by metalled road from Ohura. The soil is a light loam on clay and sandstone formation; watered by springs and creeks. About 50 acres in good pasture, 135 acres in fair pasture, 150 acres formerly felled and grassed but now deteriorated to fern and scrub, and 35 acres in bush. Subdivided into six paddocks.

Whangamomona County.—Mahoe Survey District.
Section 5, Block VII: Area, 1,271 acres. Capital value, £320. Deposit on deferred payments, £20: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £9 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 8s.
Weighted with £2,530 for improvements, comprising dwelling; wool-shed, yards, orchard, fencing, felling and grassing. This sum is payable in cash or by a deposit of £150, leaving £2,380 on mortgage under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act.
A grazing property, situated on the Okara Road, fifteen miles from Whangamomona Township, Railway-station, and Saleyards. Access is by metalled road. Easy hills to steep and broken country, the soil being a light loam on papa and sandstone; watered by streams. About 850 acres have been felled and grassed, the remaining 421 acres being in bush. Subdivided into nine paddocks.

Eltham County.—Omona Survey District.
Section 11, Block X, and Sections 6 and 7, Block XI: Area, 580 acres 0 roods 20 perches. Capital value, £150. Deposit on deferred payments, £10: Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £4 11s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £3.
Weighted with £1,250 for improvements, comprising dwelling, wool-shed, cow-byre, yards, shed, approximately 600 chains fencing, 200 acres cleared and grassed, and 380 acres surface sown. This amount is payable in cash or may be secured on first mortgage to the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand for a term of thirty-five years with interest at the rate ruling as at date of selection.
Situated on the Rawhitiroa Road, a quarter of a mile from Omoana Post-office and School, and about twenty-one miles from Eltham Railway-station. Access is by tar-sealed and metalled road from Eltham. The soil is fair to poor loam resting on papa and sandstone formation, while the property generally comprises 320 acres tableland in four spurs, the balance being very steep southerly faces. The property at present comprises 284 acres in good pasture, and 296 acres felled and grassed, but reverted to fern and scrub. Ragwort is prevalent.
