Lands set apart as Permanent State Forests.

A PROCLAMATION.

BY virtue and in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section eighteen of the Forests Act, 1921-22, I, Sir Michael Myers, Administrator of the Government of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby set apart the areas described in the Schedule hereto as permanent State forests.

SCHEDULE.

WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.—WESTLAND FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.

ALL those areas in the Westland Land District, containing approximately 57,941 acres, and described as follows:—

All that area containing approximately 8,178 acres, being part of Provisional State Forest 1627 (Gazette, 1920, page 2841, national-endowment provisional State forest), situated in Blocks II, III, V, VI, VII, and IX, Toaroha Survey District, and bounded generally as follows: Commencing at the north-western corner of Section 2386, Block III, Toaroha Survey District, and proceeding in a south-easterly direction along the south-western boundary of the said section, across a road reserve, the Toaroha River, and again a road reserve; thence along the southern boundary of Section 3563 and across a road reserve; thence along the eastern side of the said road reserve to the continuation of the southern boundary of said Section 3563; thence along the southern and eastern boundaries of that section and the latter boundary produced to the Kokatahi River; thence along the left bank of the said river to the western boundary of Block IV, Toaroha Survey District; thence along the western boundary of the said block to its south-western corner; thence along a line bearing 243° 26′ to the eastern edge of the bush of the Diedrich Range; thence generally northerly and southerly along the bush-edge of the said range to its intersection with the production of the aforesaid line bearing 243° 26′; thence again along the aforesaid line bearing 243° 26′ to the south-western corner of Block VI, Toaroha Survey District; thence along a line bearing 235° 30′ to the eastern side of the Whitcombe Valley Road; thence again along a right line to the south-western corner of Section 2322; thence along the south-eastern boundary of the said Section 2322, across a road reserve, Deidrich Creek, and another road reserve and along the southern boundary of Section 986 and across a road reserve; thence generally north-easterly along lines bearing 71° for 8500 links, 56° 30′ for 13400 links, and 33° 45′ to the point of commencement.

Also all that area containing approximately 5,778 acres, being part of Provisional State Forest 1622 (Gazette, 1920, page 2840, and Gazette, 1930, page 2289, national-endowment provisional State forest, 5,228 acres) and part of Provisional State Forest 1667 (Gazette, 1919, page 1288, ordinary provisional State forest, 550 acres), situated in Blocks I, II, III, VI, and VII, Kanieri Survey District, and bounded generally as follows: Commencing at the south-eastern corner of Section 3575, Block III, Kanieri Survey District, and proceeding south-westerly along the western side of a road reserve to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Butler’s Freehold (Reserve 145); thence across the said road reserve to the western corner of Reserve 145 aforesaid, and along the said south-western boundary of Butler’s Freehold (Reserve 145), 10882 links; thence along a line bearing 209° 30′ to Lake Kanieri Water-race; thence westerly along the said water-race for 12500 links; thence along lines bearing 14° 45′ for 6100 links, 251° 30′ for 5450 links, and 265° 30′ for 3550 links; thence along a right line running in a north-westerly direction to the most easterly corner of Section 3068; thence along the north-eastern boundary of that section and the eastern boundary of Section 429 to its north-eastern corner; thence along a right line north-westerly to a point on the northern side of a road reserve in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 3262; thence along the northern side of the said road reserve to a point in line with the north-western boundary of the aforesaid Section 3262; thence along a right line north-easterly to a point on the southern boundary of Section 722, distant 1170 links from the south-western corner of the said section; thence along the southern boundary of the said Section 722 and its production across a road reserve; and thence again by a right line south-easterly to the point of commencement.

Also all that area containing approximately 3,383 acres, being part of Provisional State Forest 1622 (Gazette, 1920, page 2840, national-endowment provisional State forest), situated in Blocks X, XI, XIV, and XV, Kanieri Survey District, and bounded generally as follows: Commencing at the north-eastern corner of Section 2774, Block XV aforesaid, and proceeding along the said section’s northern boundary and the northern boundaries of Sections 988, 987, and 2775, the western boundary of the said Section 2775 and its production to the bank of the Styx River; thence westerly along the right bank of the Styx River to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Section 2103; thence along the eastern boundary of that section, the eastern and northern boundaries of Section 1939, and the eastern boundary of Section 1651, to its north-eastern corner; thence along a right line north-westerly to the eastern corner of Section 568, Block X aforesaid; thence again along a right line in a north-easterly direction to Trig. E.B., Gentle Annie, on the western boundary of Scenic Reserve No. 1177, and thence along the said western boundary of the said scenic reserve to the point of commencement.

Also all that area containing approximately 4,949 acres, being part of Provisional State Forest No. 1616 (Gazette, 1920, page 2839, national-endowment provisional State forest, 3,729 acres) and Provisional State Forest No. 1675 (Gazette, 1919, page 1287, ordinary provisional State forest, 1,220 acres), situated in Block VIII, Kanieri, and Blocks V, VI, IX, and X, Turiwhate Survey Districts, and bounded generally as follows: Commencing at the most southern corner of Section 669, Block VIII, Kanieri Survey District, and proceeding south-easterly along the eastern boundary of Butler’s Freehold (Reserve 145) to the Level Valley Road, Block IX, Turiwhate Survey District; thence north-easterly along the northern side of the said Level Valley Road, the right bank of Lebel Creek, and again along the northern side of Level Valley Road to its intersection with the Kawhaka Road; thence across the said Kawhaka Road and along its northern side to the western boundary of Section 3582, Block VI, Turiwhate Survey District; thence along the said boundary of Section 3582 and its production to a point on the left-hand bank of Kerr’s Creek; thence along a right line north-easterly to the north-western corner of Section 3160, along the northern boundary of the said section to its north-eastern corner, and again along a right line to the south-western corner of Section 1990; thence along the western boundary of that section and the southern boundary of Section 2142 to the south-western corner of said Section 2142; thence along a line bearing 236° 30′ (approximately) a distance of 19800 links; thence north-easterly along a line bearing 317° 45′ to Maher Creek; thence along the left bank of the said Maher Creek to the eastern boundary of a reservoir reserve; thence along the eastern boundary of the said reserve to the Kawhaka Creek, and across this creek to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 3060; thence to and along the south-eastern, the south-western, and the north-western boundaries of the said Section 3060, the latter produced to the Kawhaka River, and thence along the left bank of the Kawhaka River to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 669; and thence to and along the south-eastern boundary of Section 669 to the point of commencement.

Also all that area containing approximately 22,060 acres, being part of Provisional State Forest 1616 (Gazette, 1920, page 2839, national-endowment provisional State forest, 1,482 acres), part of Provisional State Forest 1617 (Gazette, 1920, page 2840, national-endowment provisional State forest, 1,976 acres), part of Provisional State Forest 1619 (Gazette, 1920; page 2840, national-endowment provisional State forest, 2,246 acres), part of Provisional State Forest 1676 (Gazette, 1919, page 1287, ordinary provisional State forest, 10,852 acres), Crown land (5,484 acres), and national-endowment land (20 acres), situated in Blocks VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, and XV, Turiwhate, and Blocks V and IX, Otira Survey Districts, and bounded generally as follows: Commencing at the eastern corner of Section 3140 in Block VI, Turiwhate Survey District, and proceeding along the southern boundaries of Sections 2072, 2871, 2981, and 3565, across Harrington Creek and a road reserve and along the southern boundary of Section 3056 produced to the right bank of Griffin Creek; thence following the said right bank of Griffin Creek to a point in line with the southern boundary of Section 2974; thence to and along this boundary, the western, southern, and eastern boundaries of Section 3191 and the southern boundary of Section 2081, and the latter produced to the Taipo River; thence along the left bank of the Taipo River to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 2396; thence to and along that boundary and the southern and south-eastern boundaries of the said Section 2396, and the latter produced to the Taipo River; thence again along the left bank of the Taipo River to the northern boundary of Pastoral License 1021 (Gazette, 1930, page 1505); thence westerly along the said boundary to the left bank of Scotty’s Creek; thence following the said bank of Scotty’s Creek to the eastern bush-edge of the Campbell Range; thence generally westerly along the bush-edge of the said Campbell Range, Razorback Ridge, Griffin Range, and McArthur Range to the southern boundary of Block IX, Turiwhate Survey District; thence again along the bush-edge of the McArthur Range generally easterly to Newton’s
