“Controlling officers are to report to the Director-General on the suitability of probationers at the end of three months’ service and thereafter as directed, provided always that, in the event of the services rendered by a probationer being other than fully satisfactory, a special report shall forthwith be submitted.”

Regulation 29 (2) is hereby amended by deleting the words “the salary provided in the sixth subdivision of the scale in the Second Schedule,” and substituting therefor the words “a salary from time to time determined by the Director-General.”

Regulation 30 (as heretofore amended) is hereby amended by deleting the words “Before an officer graded in Class VI of the General Division shall be deemed eligible for advancement beyond the fifth subdivision,” and substituting therefor the words “Before a male officer graded in the Second Division shall be deemed eligible for advancement beyond a salary from time to time determined by the Director-General.”

Regulation 31 is hereby amended by deleting the words “senior mechanic, or other position graded above Class V of the General Division,” and substituting therefor the words “foreman-mechanic or other position in the Second Division of the same grade of classification.”

Regulations 32 and 33 (as heretofore amended) and 34 (1) and 34 (2) are hereby amended by deleting the words “Clerical Division,” and substituting therefor the words “First Division.”

Regulation 36 is hereby amended by deleting the words “to the Engineering Division.”

Regulation 37 (as heretofore amended) is amended by deleting the phrase “Class G. VI,” and substituting therefor the words “the Second Division.”

Regulation 38 is hereby revoked, and the following substituted:—
“Vacancies in the First Division for cadetships or junior clerkships shall be filled by (a) officers of the Second Division and message-boys, on probation, in the employ of the Department, who have passed the departmental Entrance Examination or its equivalent; and (b) outside eligible applicants: Provided that if any such officer, message-boy, or applicant is available who has passed the University Entrance Examination he may be given precedence over any such officer, message-boy, or applicant who has passed only the departmental Entrance Examination or its equivalent.”
- Regulation 39 is hereby amended by the addition of the following:—
“An officer who for any reason is reduced in grade may retain such relative seniority as the Director-General decides.”

Regulation 59 (8) (as heretofore amended) is hereby amended by deleting the words “Clerical and Engineering Divisions,” and substituting therefor the words “First Division.”

Regulation 61 is hereby revoked, and the following substituted:—
“The Director-General may authorize the payment of one or more risk allowances, not exceeding £10 per annum each, for the performance of tellers’ duties at such money-order and savings-bank offices as he may decide.”

Regulation 108 is hereby amended by deleting the [words “by telegram.”

Regulation 132 is hereby amended by deleting the words “Officers below Class II of the Clerical and Engineering Divisions,” and substituting therefor the words “Officers of the First Division graded below Class II.”

The First Schedule is hereby amended by deleting the words “Clerical and Engineering Divisions,” and substituting therefor the words “First Division”; by deleting from the first subdivision the amounts “790½” and “837”; and by adding the following words:—
“NOTE.—The salaries shown in the above scale are to be read as subject to—
“(a) Reduction pursuant to the provisions of the Finance Act, 1931, and the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, 1932; and
“(b) Increase pursuant to the provisions of the Finance Act (No. 2), 1934.”
- The Second, Third, and Fourth Schedules are hereby revoked.
