Arbor Day, 1934.

———

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 1st June, 1934.

IT is hereby notified that it has been decided that in future the first Wednesday in August each year shall be observed as Arbor Day. Local bodies are therefore requested to observe Wednesday, the 1st August, as Arbor Day.

In view of the national importance of tree-planting it is desired that every effort should be made to organize suitable celebrations on this date. Where it is found that on account of local climatic conditions in any district the day is deemed not suitable, then such districts are invited to observe such other day as is practicable.

J. A. YOUNG, Minister of Internal Affairs.
