“(3A) The numbers in the margin opposite the names of the coal-tar dyes in subclause (3) hereof refer to the numbers allotted in Rowe’s Colour Index.

“(3B) Rowe’s Colour Index means the colour index edited by F. M. Rowe, and published by the Society of Dyers and Colourists, England, in 1924.

Labelling.

“(3C) Every package containing any colouring or colourings sold or intended for food colouring shall bear a label in which shall be written legibly and prominently—
“(i) The name or names of the colouring or colourings ; and
“(ii) Where any coal-tar dye is present the number under which the dye is indexed in Rowe’s Colour Index.”

  1. Subclause (5) of Regulation 35 of the principal regulations relating to malt-extract and cod-liver oil is hereby amended by deleting the words “fifteen parts,” and substituting therefor the words “ten parts.”

  2. Regulation 45 of the principal regulations in so far as it relates to reconstituted cream is hereby amended by adding thereto the following subclause :—
    “(6) Where any reconstituted cream is sold in an unlabelled container provided by the customer there shall be conspicuously posted on the walls of that part of the premises in which the sale takes place a notice, or such number of notices as an officer may direct, adequately to notify the purchaser that reconstituted cream is so sold or offered for sale, and if both cream and reconstituted cream are so sold at the same premises the fact shall be stated in such notice or notices.”

  3. Regulation 63 of the principal regulations relating to preserved fruit is hereby amended by adding to subclause (2) thereof after the word “sugar” the following words : “Except in the case of pulped uncooked fruits prepared specially for use as dessert flavourings or dressing, the preservative substance sodium benzoate in proportion not exceeding eight grains to the pint, or sulphur dioxide in proportion not exceeding three grains to the pint, may be added.”

  4. Regulation 65 relating to essences is hereby amended as follows :—
    (i) Subclause (1) is revoked and the following substituted therefor :—
    “(i) Essences shall be solutions of wholesome flavouring-substances in water or in ethyl alcohol or in ethylene glycol or in isopropyl alcohol, with or without water, and with or without harmless colouring-matter. They shall not contain any mineral oil nor any added foreign substance.
    “(ii) Subclause (8) is hereby amended by inserting between the word “an” and the word “alcoholic” the word “(ethyl)” ; and by adding after the word “glycerine” the words “but no isopropyl alcohol or ethylene glycol.”
    “(iii) Subclause (9) is amended by inserting before the words “as the case may be” the words “or imitation vanilla flavour.”

  5. Regulation 86 of the principal regulations as amended by Order in Council gazetted on 26th May, 1932, is hereby further amended by revoking subclause (7) thereof relating to lysol and substituting therefor the following :—

Lysol.

“(7) Lysol shall conform to the description, characters, and tests respectively prescribed in the 1932 edition of the British Pharmacopoeia for ‘Liquor Cresolis Saponatus.’”
