Amending Regulations under Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908.—

At the Government House at Wellington, this 12th day of December, 1933.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby amend the regulations made under the said Act on the twenty-third day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four, and gazetted on the twenty-sixth day of the same month (hereinafter referred to as “the principal regulations”), as follows:—

  1. Regulation 10 of the principal regulations relating to preservatives is hereby amended by adding thereto the following sub-clause:—

“(8) (a) No preservative substance shall be sold as suitable for use in any food unless the addition of such substance to such food is specifically permitted by these regulations.

“Prohibition.

“(b) No label shall bear any statement which directly or by implication suggests the addition of any substances to any food as a preservative if the sale of such food containing, or after the addition of, the preservative would be an offence against these regulations.”

  1. Regulation 11 of the principal regulations relating to flavourings and colourings is hereby amended as follows: By deleting all the words after the words “coal-tar dyes, namely” in subclause (3) thereof, and substituting therefor the following:—
