Details : The old flagstaff near the rear beacon on North Head has been removed.
Remarks : The “ Directions for Entering Harbour” given in the New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide-tables, page 264, are to be amended as follows. Delete the first two paragraphs and substitute:—
“Before nearing the bar the rear beacon should be brought to bear about 071°. When nearing the bar bring the rear beacon about its own width open southward of the lighthouse and cross the bar on this line, 071° (Dec. 1932). Vessels should not attempt to cross the bar unless a safe anchorage inside Pouto Point or South Head can be reached before dark.
“After crossing the bar alter course so as to gradually close the beacons until they are open about two widths, before reaching the North Spit, and steer on this line until approaching the north-western end of Tory shoal; then alter course a little to the eastward so as to further close the beacons until they are about their own width open, which course should take a vessel midway between the shoal and North Sand Spit. Thence steer along the shore keeping mid-way between it and the shoal.”
In the third paragraph substitute “rear beacon” for “old flagstaff.”
