Provided that in such roll number there shall not be included any pupil who was not in attendance at the school at any time during the fortnight preceding the 1st March.
- (1) On the 1st day of March, or as soon thereafter as possible, in each year the Director shall classify intermediate schools and intermediate departments in the grades specified in Schedule A hereunder:
Provided that unless the Director is satisfied that an increased attendance qualifying a school or department for a higher grade is likely to be permanent he may direct that the grade of the school or department shall be raised only provisionally, and subsequently if the increased attendance is not maintained he may place the school or department in the grade in which it was classified previously or in some other grade according to its roll number.
(2) Subject to the provisions hereinafter contained the number of assistant teachers in any intermediate school or department shall be the numbers shown in columns (3), (4), and (5) of Schedule A hereunder for the grade of the school or department shown in column (2) of the aforesaid schedule:
Provided that in intermediate departments of Grade IVA to Grade VC inclusive attached to a primary, secondary, technical school, or combined school, an additional assistant of Grade 2 may, with the approval of the Director, be added to the number shown in column (5):
Provided also that in intermediate schools or intermediate departments to which are admitted boys only or girls only, the total number of assistants, male or female as the case may be of each grade, shall be equal to the total number of assistants of each grade, male and female together, provided for in the aforesaid schedule.
(3) Subject to the provisions hereinafter contained, the salaries payable to assistant teachers holding permanent positions in intermediate schools or departments shall be the salaries of the grades prescribed in Schedule A hereunder and defined in Schedule B.
(4) If circumstances make it appear expedient that a modification of the staffing or salaries of a school or department provided for by these regulations is reasonable or necessary, the Minister may authorize or direct the Board to modify the staffing or the salaries in such manner and for such period as he thinks fit.
