Appointment in the Public Service.

THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointment in the Public Service :—

James Joseph McGahey,

to be Registrar of Electors for the Lyttelton District for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, as from the 4th day of January, 1932.

Applying the Provisions of Section 118 of the Public Works Act, 1928, to the Devil’s Elbow Deviation.

WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the Minister of Public Works may, on the recommendation of the Main Highways Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”), by notice in the Gazette, declare that the provisions of section 118 of the Public Works Act, 1928, in so far as it provides for the apportionment of the cost of construction of any road, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of any main highway in so far as such cost is not provided for out of the Main Highways Account :—

And whereas on the 16th day of December, 1931, the Board resolved as follows: “That, in terms of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, the Right Honourable Minister of Public Works be recommended to apply the provisions of section 118 of the Public Works Act, 1928, to the Devil’s Elbow Deviation on the Masterton–Tinui Main Highway” :

Now, therefore, I, Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the said section 7, and of every other power in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby declare that the provisions of section 118 of the Public Works Act, 1928, in so far as they provide for the apportionment of cost of construction, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of the Devil’s Elbow Deviation on the Masterton–Tinui Main Highway.

WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the Minister of Public Works may, on the recommendation of the Main Highways Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”), by notice in the Gazette, declare that the provisions of section 135 of the Public Works Act, 1928, in so far as it provides for the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway in so far as such cost is not provided for out of the Main Highways Fund :—

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block IX, Rotorua Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Mamaku, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken : 1 acre 2 roods 30 perches.

Being portion of Section 5A.

Situated in Block IX, Rotorua Survey District (Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 24416.)

In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 83260, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, I hereby notify that the undermentioned land, being the land known as McCallum Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Act, is subject to the said Act as from the 17th September, 1931.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—McCALLUM SETTLEMENT.
