NOTICE is hereby given that the Registers of New Zealand 5½, 5¼, and 5⅛ per-cent. Inscribed Stock, maturing 15th February, 1932, 15th August, 1933, and 15th February, 1937, will be closed from the 2nd February to 15th February, 1931 (inclusive), for the purpose of the issue of half-yearly interest.

NORTH CANTERBURY ELECTRIC-POWER BOARD.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of those portions of the Oxford and Eyre Counties recently included in the Board’s Inner Area, taken on the 17th day of January, 1931, on the proposal of the North Canterbury Electric-power Board to borrow the sum of thirteen thousand two hundred pounds (£13,200) for the purposes of carrying out and paying for the work of electrical reticulation, erecting mains, and providing material and things necessary or incidental to extending the Board’s electrical supply to those additional portions of the Oxford and Eyre Counties recently gazetted part of the Board’s Inner Area, and fully described in the New Zealand Gazette, 1930, No. 30, page 1414, in respect of which works, guarantees, as described in clause 12 (1) of the Electrical Supply Regulations, 1927, have first been given in favour of the Power Board, for payments amounting in each of not less than ten consecutive years from the completion of such works, to 16 per cent. of the estimated capital cost of such works; and supplying such areas with electrical energy and power, and exercising the power conferred on the Board by sections 118, 119, and 120 of the Electric-power Boards Act, 1925 (Advances).

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 19; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 7. I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, and the rules made thereunder, it is hereby notified that an election by the insurance companies carrying on business in New Zealand as members of the undermentioned Fire Boards will be held on Monday, the 23rd February, 1931, in the manner prescribed by the said Act and rules. Amending Rules for the Examination of Masters and Mates.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in me by section 23 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, I do hereby make the following rules, amending the rules of the 10th day of December, 1930, and published in the Gazette of the fifteenth day of the same month at page 3783, for the conduct of examination of masters and mates and as to the qualification of applicants therefor; and I do hereby order that these amending rules shall come into force on the date of publication thereof in the Gazette.

RULES.

  1. RULE 34 of the hereinbefore-recited rules is hereby amended by adding the following proviso thereto:—

“Provided that any candidate who, before the 1st day of January, 1929, was indentured as an apprentice to the sea-service, or went to sea in any other capacity qualifying for examination, or began his qualifying service on board a training-ship, may be admitted to examination for a certificate
