H IS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the appointments, promotions, transfers,
and retirements of the undermentioned officers of the N.Z.
Military Forces:—
QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED
RIFLES.
Major O. L. Ferens is transferred to the Otago Mounted
Rifles. Dated 8th September, 1931.

THE WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant-Colonel A. M. Samuel, v.d., is posted to the
Retired List, with permission to retain his rank and wear
the prescribed uniform. Dated 2nd October, 1931.

THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major O. L. Ferens, from Queen Alexandra's (Wellington
West Coast) Mounted Rifles, to be Major, with seniority
next below Major A. S. B. Smith. Dated 8th September,
1931.
REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant J. R. Turnbull, 1st Field Battery, to be Captain.
Dated 21st September, 1931.
2nd Lieutenant S. Hardy, 5th Field Battery, to be Lieutenant.
Dated 21st September, 1931.
2nd Lieutenant K. J. Unsted, 1st Field Battery, is retired.
Dated 15th August, 1931.

N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants:—

N.Z. INFANTRY.
The North Auckland Regiment.
The appointments of the undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants
(on probation), 2nd Cadet Battalion, are confirmed:—

The Waikato Regiment.
2nd Lieutenant A. S. Playle, Regimental Supernumerary
List, is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 30th September,
1931.

The Wellington Regiment.
Lieutenant F. F. Cameron, from the Hawke's Bay Regiment,
to be Lieutenant, with seniority from the 30th May, 1927,
and is posted to the 1st C Battalion. Dated 21st September, 1931.

The Wellington West Coast Regiment.
The undermentioned Lieutenants, 3rd C Battalion, to be
Captains. Dated 13th May, 1931:—

The Hawke's Bay Regiment.
Lieutenant F. F. Cameron, 1st C Battalion, is transferred to
the Wellington Regiment. Dated 21st September, 1931.

to the Regimental Supernumerary List:—

William John Meade to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is posted to

N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.
Major A. C. McKillop, M.B., ceases to be attached to the
3rd Field Company, Corps of N.Z. Engineers. Dated 26th
September, 1931.
Lieutenant S. B. Mackay, M.B., ceases to be posted to the
1st Field Ambulance, and is attached to the 13th Coast
Battery, N.Z. Artillery. Dated 30th September, 1931.
Lieutenant N. N. Porterfield, M.B., ceases to be posted to
the 3rd Field Ambulance (on transfer to Northern Command).
Dated 15th September, 1931.

N.Z. DENTAL CORPS.
Lieutenant R. B. Dodds to be Captain. Dated 26th September, 1931.

Appointments to the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy.

H IS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve the following appointments in the New
Zealand Division of the Royal Navy:—
Lieutenant Richard Ryder Airey, Royal Navy, to H.M.S.
“Diomede,” additional, to date 14th August, 1931, and
to H.M.S. “Diomede” part complement, and as Squadron
Gunnery Officer, vice Terry, from date of joining.
Warrant Shipwright Stanley Herbert Tozer, Royal Navy,
to H.M.S. “Pembroke” for duty in H.M.S. “Dunedin”
during refit, vice Burden, to date 1st July, 1931.

Appointment of Vice-Consul of the United States of America,
at Wellington, recognized.

Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 9th October, 1931.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General directs it to be
notified that the appointment of
Leslie W. Johnson, Esquire,
as Vice-Consul of the United States of America, at Wellington,
has been recognized.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block IX, Aongatete Survey
District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a
certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and
for the purposes of such public work the land described in the
Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby
further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken
is deposited in the post-office at Te Puna, and is there open
for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution
of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should,
if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of
the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth
the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days
from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of
Public Works at Wellington.

APPROXIMATE areas of the pieces of land required to be taken:—
A. R. P. Being Portion of

Situated in Block IX, Aongatete Survey District, Te Puna

In the Auckland Land District; as the same are more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 82578,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at
Wellington, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.
As witness my hand, at Wellington, this 8th day of
