HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to confirm the appointments of the following officers of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New Zealand Division) :—

Probationary Sub-Lieutenant Alexander Sinclair Gray as Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 24th March, 1930.

Probationary Sub-Lieutenant Ralph Eric Harding as Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.V.R. (N.Z.D.), to date 24th March, 1930.

Defence Rifle Clubs disbanded.

Superintendents of Mercantile Marine appointed.

IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance of the power and authority vested in me by section 157 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, the following persons have been appointed Superintendents of Mercantile Marine for the ports mentioned, as from the date hereof :—

William Roderick McKenzie is appointed Superintendent of Mercantile Marine for the Port of Foxton.

Edwin John Williams is appointed Superintendent of Mercantile Marine for the Port of Kaikoura.

Inspector under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1928, appointed.— (Notice No. Ag. 2977.)

Constable Thomas William Parkhill

to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrate’s Court at Lawrence for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, and Clerk of the Warden’s Courts, Receiver of Gold Revenue, and Mining Registrar at Lawrence and Roxburgh for the Otago Mining District, constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, as from the 18th day of March, 1931.

Constable Thomas McCall

to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Ruawai for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, as from the 21st day of June, 1931.

RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL.

Loan of £900 for the purpose of widening, forming, and metalling portions of the Okete Road, within the Okete Road Special-rating Area of the County of Raglan.

PURSUANT to the provisions of section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that the following is the result of a poll of the ratepayers of the Okete Road Special-rating Area of the County of Raglan, taken on the 20th day of June, 1931, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £900 for the purpose of widening, forming, and metalling portions of the Okete Road, within the Okete Road Special-rating Area of the said county.

Total number of valid votes recorded .. 22
For the proposal .. .. .. 17
Against the proposal .. .. .. 5

As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal exceeds three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

Akitio County Council.

CANCELLATION OF UNEXERCISED LOAN AUTHORITY.

In the matter of Section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

WHEREAS the Akitio County Council has been duly authorized to borrow by way of loan the sum of five hundred pounds (£500) for the metalling of portion of Towai Road, and the consent of the Governor-General in Council thereto was given by Order in Council made on 6th June, 1930, and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 44, of 12th idem, at page 1940 :

And whereas, in respect of the said sum of five hundred pounds (£500), there has been raised and borrowed for the purpose aforesaid the sum of three hundred pounds (£300) :

And whereas the undertaking in respect of which the said loan was authorized has been completed, and it has not been found necessary to borrow the whole of the amount so authorized :

And whereas the Minister of Finance has duly notified the Akitio County Council in writing of his intention to cancel the loan authority in so far as it has not been exercised :

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon me by section 118 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, and of all other powers me in this behalf enabling, I, George William Forbes, Minister of Finance, do hereby cancel the authority of the Akitio County Council to borrow, under the loan authority hereinbefore referred to, the sum of two hundred pounds (£200), being the amount in respect of which the said loan authority has not been exercised : Provided always that this cancellation is without prejudice to the validity in all respects of the loan of three hundred pounds (£300) already borrowed pursuant to the said loan authority.
