Opening Lands in North Auckland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
BLEDISLOE, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Land Act, 1924, I, Charles, Baron Bledisloe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-second day of June, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-one, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule, and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Hobson County.—Te Kuri Survey District.—Te Kuri Block.
(Exempt from payment of rent for four years.)
Section 3, Block V: Area, 477 acres. Capital value, £120. Half-yearly rent, £2 8s.
Section 4, Block V: Area, 477 acres. Capital value, £120. Half-yearly rent, £2 8s.
(Exempt from payment of rent for five years.)
Section 6, Block V: Area, 790 acres. Capital value, £100. Half-yearly rent, £2.
Section 3, Block VI: Area, 860 acres. Capital value, £215. Half-yearly rent, £4 6s.
Section 5, Block V: Area, 720 acres. Capital value, £360. Half-yearly rent, £7 4s.

Section 1, Block VII: Area, 1,360 acres. Capital value, £1,360. Half-yearly rent, £27 4s.
Sections 2 and 6, Block VIII, and Sections 2 and 3, Block VI: Area, 1,738 acres. Capital value, £1,740. Half-yearly rent, £34 16s.
Section 3, Block VIII, and Section 4, Block VII: Area 1,660 acres. Capital value, £1,870. Half-yearly rent, £37 8s.
Section 5, Block VII: Area, 1,638 acres. Capital value, £1,640. Half-yearly rent, £32 16s.
These sections comprise part of the Te Kuri Block, between the Wairoa River and the West Coast. Access is from Tangaihi, where the steamer calls and where there is a post and telegraph office and store. Road is being formed to Lower Rototuna Lake. From there to Section 5, Block VII, access is by unformed stock road.
PARTICULAR DESCRIPTION.
Section 3, Block V.—About 200 acres easy undulating land in fern, tea-tree, scrub, rushes, and heather; balance is poor clay hills, suitable for growing trees. Soil is poor semi-volcanic and red clay resting on sandstone. Fairly well watered by swamp on eastern and western boundaries. Elevation 50 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Two hundred acres could be converted into a dairy farm.
Section 4, Block V.—Same as above.
Section 6, Block V.—About 100 acres undulating in fern, tea-tree, heather, and rushes; balance poor red clay hills. Soil is poor, semi-volcanic and poor red clay resting on sandstone. Elevation 50 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. No water. Suitable for tree planting.
Section 3, Block VI.—About 180 acres poor swamp, mostly wiwi with little raupo—680 acres poor red clay hills in scrubby tea-tree, fit for tree planting. Section poorly watered by swamp. Elevation 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level.
Section 5, Block V.—Contains about 120 acres of long narrow swamp in wiwi and raupo. About 500 acres poor red clay hills and about 100 acres undulating semi-volcanic land. Soil poorish on swamp, and the balance is poor resting on clay. Watered by swamp. Elevation 20 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level.
Section 1, Block VII.—About 200 acres semi-volcanic land and about 1,160 acres self reclaimed sand hills—undulating, mostly in fern, scrubby tea-tree, tawhina, and rushes, with fair amount of danthonia and ratstail. Soil on 200 acres is fair semi-volcanic. Well watered by lake and small streams. Would carry 250 ewes in present condition.
Sections 2 and 3, Block VII, and 2 and 6, Block VIII.—About 206 acres semi-volcanic easy slopes, 1,446 acres self reclaimed sand hills, and 86 acres of poor red clay hills. All in fern, tea-tree, tawhina, and heather. Parts have wild danthonia and ratstail. Soil is semi-volcanic and white to brown sand resting on sandstone. Well watered by lake and small streams on sea-coast. Elevation 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Would carry about 250 ewes in present condition.
Sections 3, Block VIII, and 4, Block VII.—About 120 acres semi-volcanic (not sandy), easy slopes. Eighty acres black sand, swamp in gullies growing cabbage trees, high tea-tree, and little raupo. About 295 acres poor broken hills; 1,243 acres self reclaimed easy sloping sand hills all in fern, tea-tree, tawhina, and heather. Soil is good on swamp and poor on balance, part growing wild danthonia and little paspalum. Well watered by lake and small streams on coast. Elevation 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Would carry about 300 ewes in present condition.
Sections 4, Block VIII, and 5, Block VII.—About 75 acres flat to easy undulating (not sandy). Twenty acres fair swamp with black sand in gullies, in rushes and tea-tree. Eighty acres poor broken hills and 1,463 acres self reclaimed sand hills. All but swamp in fern, tea-tree scrub, tawhina, and heather. Soil is fair on swamp; poor on balance. Watered by swamp and small streams on coast. Would carry about 250 ewes in present condition. Portion of section is growing wild danthonia and ratstail.
The block is classified as undeveloped land and successful selectors may apply to the Lands Development Board for advances up to 90 per cent. of the value of proposed improvements, not exceeding £1,250 in all. No advances, however, will be made with respect to Sections 5 and 6, Block V, and 3, Block VI. With regard to the other sections the Lands Development Board will deal with each application on its merits.
