Land and Appointment Notices




Rent free for five years, on condition that improvements to
double the value of the remitted rent are effected annually in
addition to the ordinary improvements required under the
conditions of the lease.

The block is situated on the Whangarei-Maungakaramaea
main metalled road, from seven to nine miles from Whangarei
and from five to seven miles from Maungakaramaea.

The block is for the most part all easy undulating ploughable
gum-clay land resting on a clay formation. The average
elevation is from 50 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. The
sections are for the most part poorly watered, but water has
been obtained by boring on Sections 6, Block VI, and Section 7,
Block IV, and successful selectors may apply to the Lands
Development Board for advances up to 90 per cent. of the
value of improvements (including the supply of water) but not
exceeding £1,250 in any one case. The Lands Development
Board will deal with each application on its merits.

SPECIAL DESCRIPTION.

Section 2, Block IV: About eight miles from Whangarei.
About 10 acres flax and raupo swamp; balance gum land in
fern, tea-tree scrub, rushes, and little gorse. All undulating.
Soil comprises vegetation deposit on swamp, and remainder is
clay. Poorly watered by soakage and swamp.

Section 4, Block IV: About seven miles and a half from
Whangarei. About 10 acres flax and raupo swamp in tea-tree
scrub, fern, and rushes, and little gorse. Easy undulating.
Badly watered by swamp.

Section 3, Block IV, and Section 6, Block VI: About
20 acres flat; balance easy undulating in fern, tea-tree,
heather, and rushes, with some cape weed and gorse. Three
water-bores supply up to 240 gallons per hour.

Section 7, Block IV: About 2 acres wiwi swamp, about
15 acres hilly to broken, and balance easy to undulating. All
in tea-tree, heather, fern, hakea, and rushes, with a little
gorse. Two water-bores supply up to 310 gallons of water
per hour.

Section 8, Block IV: About 2 acres wiwi swamp, a few
acres hilly to slightly broken; balance easy undulating in
tea-tree scrub, little fern, heather, rushes, and some gorse.
Poorly watered by soakage.

Section 9, Block IV: About 10 acres of rush swamp in
gully, 10 acres broken, about half the balance hilly and half
easy undulating, in tea-tree scrub, rushes, and little gorse and
fern. Fairly well watered by gully.

Section 10, Block IV: About half hilly to broken and half
undulating with three to four acres rush swamp. All in
tea-tree scrub, heather, rushes, and fair amount of gorse.
Badly watered by soakage.

Section 11, Block IV: Few acres hilly to broken. Nearly
all undulating in tea-tree scrub, little fern, rushes, heather, and
a little gorse. Badly watered by soakage.

IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDED IN CAPITAL VALUE.

Section 3, Block IV, and Section 6, Block VI: Three
water-bores supplying up to 240 gallons per hour.

Section 7, Block IV: Two water-bores supplying up to
310 gallons per hour.

Section 9, Block IV, is loaded with £15 for half-value of
24 chains of boundary-fencing. This sum must be paid in
cash.

Opening Settlement Lands in North Auckland Land District
for Selection on Renewable Lease.

BLEDISLOE, Governor-General.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred on me by the Land Act, 1924, and the Land
for Settlements Act, 1925, I, Charles, Baron Bledisloe,
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby
declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be
open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-
second day of June, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-
one, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule, and I do
also declare that the said land shall be leased under and
subject to the provisions of the said Acts.


SCHEDULE.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Hobson County.—Tangowahine Settlement.

SECTION 12s: Area, 210 acres 3 roods. Capital value,
£1,020. Half-yearly rent, £25 10s.

Section 18s: Area, 452 acres. Capital value, £1,700.
Half-yearly rent, £42 10s.

Section 18s is exempt from payment of rent for a period
of three years.

Tangowahine Settlement is situated on the banks of the
Northern Wairoa River, close to Tangowahine Wharf. Kiri-
kopuni is about five miles distant and Dargaville seven miles
and a half by the Whangarei-Dargaville Main Road.

Section 12s has about 60 acres of hill country in tea-tree,
50 acres of terrace flats in tea-tree, 20 acres hilly country
in tea-tree and grass, about 20 acres swamp in grass and
60 acres of swamp in light bush (puriri, cabbage tree, nikau),
with a little raupo. Soil is clay on tea-tree portion. Swamp
is good quality. Elevation is up to 200 ft. above sea-level.
Improvements included in capital value: 20 acres swamp,
cleared and grassed. Would make a good dairy farm when
fully developed.

Section 18s has about 100 acres swamp, 40 acres tea-tree
plateau, 110 acres bush, and 200 acres in tea-tree. Soil
is poor clay on tea-tree portion, fair clay on bush portion.
Swamp is good. Bush is heavy, comprising taraire, rata,
nikau, puriri, and totara, with an undergrowth of kiekie,
supplejacks, &c. Elevation up to 400 ft. Improvements
included in capital value: 15 acres swamp, cleared and
grassed, and 47½ chains fencing.
